ED chances for Tufts or Wash U for Fall 2025

Based on want you have shared, I agree with what @NiceUnparticularMan posted, and lean towards submitting to both Tufts and WashU.

Forgive me but I think @NiceUnparticularMan advised submitting to Tufts but not WashU (although he didn’t strongly advise against it). So it sounds like you advise is a little different unless I am misunderstanding.

I agree, and there’s no clear cut answer but IMO your score, should you submit, would not be perceived negatively or lacking at either school….and would give perspective when viewed in context of your school.

Can I ask you another question? Unlike your student’s school, my high school sends very few students to WashU (maybe two over the last 4 years and, again, it’s a very large public school). There are some private independent schools in the area that send a ton to Wash U. Do I need to worry that Wash U has “feeder schools” and my school is not one of them?

Worry about what you can.

Being a feeder school isn’t something you should worry about.

I would personally not worry about it. I see no sign they have some fixed number of students they are looking to take from our high school, and I think they will take applicants from any high school whenever they meet their parameters.

From ours and the nearby privates, WashU is the harder admit ED vs tuftsED, wanting much more rigor and slightly higher scores. However I think you are in range for both so ED to the one you like best. Tufts does way more yield protection RD than WashU: washU takes top 10-15% students in RD but they generally have higher scores than you. Tufts seems to WL top 10% in RD but accept lower, in fact more WL the higher stat or rank of student but it is anecdotal not good data, and neither of mine applied to tufts—no firsthand knowledge.

Definitely submit your score to both.

Not a waste because your stats are in range for both. Which is your favorite? Both schools have ED1 & ED2 so I would apply ED1 to your first choice and if you don’t get in you can apply ED2 to your second. Both schools give an advantage to ED, so it’s definitely a good strategy.
