(EDC) Every Day Carry

What do CC contributors carry with them every day?

EDC is a topic that has created a cottage industry and spawned countless youtube videos, podcasts and blogs. You’ll find content that runs the gamut between stylish luxury influencers all the way to doomsday preppers. While watching one slightly nerdy youtube personality detail what he carries on a daily basis I almost fell out of my chair. His flashlight was $450, his pocket knife was $500+ and his pen was $300. He has over 180k subscribers to his channel and his videos get hundreds or thousands of views…so I guess that pays pretty well…

This topic will either die the fastest death ever in CC history, or be a interesting, evolving catalog of the items you take wherever you may roam.

What I EDC:

Eagtac D25C custom titanium flashlight: I have a thing for titanium gear/gadgets. This particular flashlight was modified by an electrical engineer that specializes in customizing lights. It’s only 2.7" long but generates 900+ lumens and throws a beam 300+ yards on it’s highest mode. I’ve carried this little light every day for more than 5 years.

Zero Tolerance 0900 Les George titanium pocket knife: I wasn’t kidding about titanium. I don’t know how I’d open the deluge of Amazon boxes that descend on my house this time of year without this trusty little knife. I always open boxes at work with it as well. It’s substantial for its size and has been in my pocket for 4-5 years.

Ridge Wallet in gunmetal titanium: Ibid. It’s a great, lightweight cross between a money clip and a card case. I like the minimalist design. I’ve carried this for a little less than a year.

Pentel Quicker Clicker mechanical pencil(0.5mm black): Because it irks me that this is plastic, and not titanium, I’ve begun searching for a titanium mechanical pencil that doesn’t break the bank. That is not an easy thing to find. They are generally $150-$200+ and I refuse to pay anything even approaching that for a lead holder. I’m 99% sure I’ll purchase a Spoke Model 4 in sandblasted Ti. I’m waiting on a reply from the maker to ensure I can get the configuration I want.

Apple AirPods: I generally have these in my pocket everywhere I go. At work I have one in an ear to listen to Sirius XM radio while I’m at my desk. I also prefer to talk on the phone using a single AirPod. It frees me up to walk around while I talk, and the range is adequate for me to walk to the copy machine and back without dropping a call.

Watch: This can vary, and surprisingly none are titanium. I always have a watch on my wrist. While I like to think of myself as a colletor my wife would tell you I’m more of an “accumulator.” More often than not I wear a Seiko SKX007 dive watch heavily modified by a gentleman named Bill Yao that no longer customizes watches. It looks nice and is indestructible. I’m considering an Apple Watch purchase.

Wedding ring: It’s thin and gold and hasn’t been off my finger for a millisecond in 24+ years.

Incoming: I have a new titanium flashlight that “Santa” should be putting in my stocking. It’s the limited run, sold out Olight Warrior Mini Winter Edition. It’s a bit larger and significanly brighter than my flashlight listed above. I believe Santa acquired it during a Black Friday sale.

Hmmmm…how should many women answer this? Or is this a "mainly guys’ thread!?

Point being most things I need are in my purse!

But things I use often, often, often that I can’t do without for long include:
reading glasses
earbuds
chapstick
my Apple watch (which is always on me)
iPhone

I don’t go anywhere so I carry nothing. When I walk the dog I have the leash, house keys and phone.

Interestingly, on other forums where I’ve replied to similar topics, they are generally referred to as “pocket dumps.” I felt that excluded most women so I purposely chose a different title. Purses count for sure @abasket.

I rarely carry a purse. I have a cardholder that is attached to my phone for my license, credit card, etc. I wear a garmin vivosmart. I carry my phone and my reader glasses. That’s about it.

When working in an office, that’s a whole 'nother story. I have a backpack that generally contains pens, post-its, aspirin/aleve, a notebook, laptop, charging cords, water bottle, snack bar, etc. I’ve taken multi-day work trips with just my backpack…

I live in the country, and never ever carry a purse. So on me, when I go out, are my wallet, phone and keys, that’s it.

Having said that, my car is outfitted as if I were some kind of doomsday prepper (though in reality I am a soccer parent, who had things set up to go to soccer tournaments etc.) So my car has basically a first aid kit, chair, umbrella, rain poncho, footwarmers, swiss army knife, emergency cash, silverware, some packets of almonds, dog leash, dog dish, spare bags . . . and that is just scratching the surface!

@cinnamon1212 Don’t get me started on the soccer bug out bag! Just the camera equipment alone would make your head spin.

Now that my son is an EMT his car kit is pretty impressive. He taught me proper tourniquet techniques so I carry them in my truck now just in case.

You have perfected what is referred to as “minimalist EDC.”

I’m the minimalist, phone, keys wallet. Used to be reading glasses but I just switched to full time glasses unfortunately.

My wife’s vehicle could be mistaken for belonging to @cinnamon1212. I refer to it as as oversized Swiss Army knife.

Sometimes if get bored on a car ride I will ask her for some weird random object I think she won’t have. Usually she can tell me which compartment to fish it out of.

Guess I should mention that the wallet is a minimalist one which has very little volume itself, so that the total volume is barely more than that of its contents.

My iPhone, doggy trash bags since March 2020. We live in a rural area.

Keys and small card holder if I travel by car. My car is also very equipped for any and all emergencies including blizzards.

Side note- one very freaky day last month there came an unexpected blizzard while on our 4 mile walk. It dropped 40 degrees in minutes, there was a white out, the trees got overwhelmed, and the electricity went out (for hours). Our garage door has a battery driven code box to open but the door is electric driven and way to heavy to lift.

Luckily my neighbor who was home had a spare key. I have since ordered a spare key container and it is well hidden. I blame the covid era, as it changed my behavior in not carrying keys and ID.

We switched our front door to a keyless entry door lock. Game changer. Never have to carry my keys when on a walk.

Of course now my husband works from home, so he’s always there. But still

I usually carry my car keys, small wallet and my iPhone. Since almost everything I do anymore is in my car, my purse does not get much use. I switched to a small crossbody and haven’t had the need to carry more

I rarely carry a purse so I have what I can carry - phone and a single house key only 99% of the time.

If I do take a purse, I have a small wallet, a purse hook, and a pen.

I don’t even own a wallet. The cards go in some pocket. Generally, don’t carry cash (tho the budget works better with cash.)

Since covid, more of my everyday pants have no pockets. Yeah, that’s an issue.

So: cards, phone, keys. I do have a great fabric crossbody on a long strap, meant for travel, a little bigger than passport size.

I was relieved to learn that this thread had nothing to do with gun laws.
I still haul my purse on the very few times I leave the house via car. Why not?
When I’m walking it’s my phone, a mask and a Kleenex in my pocket.

I almost always wear jeans or hiking shorts (pending weather), so my pockets have everything.

  • Phone
  • Comb
  • Cash/change totaling between $15-100 depending on if we are traveling or not
  • CU credit card, Cap One credit card, AAA card, Driver’s License

And when I go out I grab sunglasses and keys.

My youngest taught us to take the old song, “Head and shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes,” and switch it to the old folk’s version, “Wallet, glasses, keys and phone, keys and phone.” It works extremely well for us.

Our car has other basics from napkins/plastic silverware to a Swiss army knife, binoculars, thread, etc. But those stay in the car. Some will come with us if we go hiking away from home.

I find it is easier if I carry a purse or else I would need to stuff in various pockets. During pandemic I find it cleaner to have everything in one purse.
earbuds, iphone, keys, wallet, eye glasses, hand sanitizer, bag of hand wipes, extra face mask.
I wear my watch and few rings when I go out, and always my stud earrings and necklace.

Dog food for random loss dog
Autograph book in case random dog belongs to favorite celebrity (George Clooney?)
Toothbrush
War and Peace paperback (what if I’m lost like Tom Hanks for awhile?)
Foil emergency blanket (to keep dog and I warm until we are found)

Sorry! Couldn’t resist! I’m a restless mom who is eagerly awaiting ED in a few days and I’m expanding my CC usual forum horizons.

LOL, I reread your first line 3-4 times wondering what kind of crazy person you were, then I read the rest of the post and it made sense.
