Egg prices, and impacts you are seeing

Would it be possible for you to C&P the five things? Then we could look each up for info.

I had taken a photo of the article; hopefully it’s readable.

Zero eggs at downtown Brooklyn Trader Joe’s this afternoon.

I feel like I just did some Covid-like grocery hoarding.

I have a very strict morning routine of egg whites, quinoa, loads of veggies and avocado for breakfast. It has great macros and keeps me full all morning. I am on autopilot in the morning and can’t bother to think anything else out. I buy egg whites in a carton as I use quite a few and don’t want to waste all of those yolks. Today, I bought 8 quart sized containers and stocked my freezer with them.

You should have grabbed some avocados to mash and freeze too. Most of avocadoes in the US come from Mexico!

Yesterday, in a New England grocery chain owned by Albertsons, there were plenty of eggs, $4.99 to about $7.99 per dozen.

There were eggs at Costco today too. Bought the local ones. I believe they were $8.99 for 24. Slightly higher than before but still lower than the market.

To offset high price, bought chopped romain lettuce for $1.99/2#! That’s a good price in my mind. Haha! Also bought some sumo mandarin oranges—3# for $9 (they’re quite sweet & cultivated in CA).

I bought eggs two days ago at Sprouts for $3.99/doz. I was very surprised they were in stock or that low in price. They had several varieties in stock at various prices. The lowest was $3.99. I usually get them at TJ’s for $3.49/doz but they were out of stock this time. No eggs at all of any kind at 11am. The clerk said they’ve been getting very small orders and they never know what kind will come in. When I was there a week ago the clerk said they usually sell out by 2pm. Looks online they’re also on sale at Safeway/Albertsons for $3.97/doz. No idea if they have any.

Trader Joe’s in Virginia told me they’ve been having problems getting eggs for 2-3 months.

Last week I wanted a chicken box lunch from our Kroger store (only $5, and delicious) but when I went the counter was closed. I thought maybe they were closed on Thurs, so yesterday I asked. She said sometimes they just don’t have chicken to make fried chicken! They had some prepackaged in a cold case but I didn’t want that.

I asked if it was because of bird flu, but she said no, sometimes they just don’t have chicken to fry.

Should be great next week when they go on strike.

Safeway often has $5 specials of takeout on Fridays. Sometimes they have 4 drumsticks & 4 thighs deep fried for $5! That’s enough for the 2 of us to have 2 meals or more apiece! They sometimes get very backed up making enough chicken for all the people who want to get the amazingly low-priced deal and at some point say they are making the last batch of the day, no rain checks.

This special is $5 for a huge breast, a wing, two sides (mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, a deli salad, corn) and a roll. I always lasts me two or more meals. Or you can get dark meat for $4.50.

Wegman’s at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, lots of different kinds of eggs. I bought a dozen store-brand large, $4.69.

Ohio here. I normally buy the two dozen white cage free eggs from Costco in the clear container. They had zero of those today. Instead they had loads of yellow styrofoam cartons (Prairie Farms) of 18 eggs for $5.99. Grabbed one!

Yeah, the stupid bird flu has been around now for a few months and apparently getting worse. Sheesh. And of course this is not the first time.

Costco in CA yesterday had no eggs and no 2% organic milk
