Still a breaking news story but no one’s heard anything in nearly 2 hours.
quoteAn EgyptAir flight heading from Paris to Cairo disappeared from radar with 69 people on board, the airline said.
The plane was flying at 37,000 feet when it disappeared shortly after entering Egyptian airspace, the airline tweeted. The Airbus A320 had 59 passengers and 10 crew members.
My heart goes out to the family members of those on this flight… I can’t even imagine.
With that said, I just think it’s absolutely fascinating that the airline announced a missing flight on Twitter. I guess it’s a sign of the times but it’s just a very interesting aspect of this story. (This is in no way to diminish from the seriousness of a missing- likely crashed- plane.)
Given the known facts, the aviation experts on CNN and Egyptair are saying this is likely terrorism. Could be one of those bombs the size of a soda can, like the bomb that took down the Russian jet over Egypt.
I watched this for several hours this morning because I couldn’t sleep. (By morning I mean when it was first breaking).
The talk then was already about how it was a likely terrorist crash- before it was even scheduled to land. I really, truly despise how the media speculates so much but this one in particular gets under my skin. Terrorists want us to believe that everything is done by them- whether it is or not. This plays right into that narrative.
Will it end up being terrorism? Likely. But I wish we’d wait until either someone took responsibility or there is some evidence. No need to remind the terrorists that we’re perpetually terrified of them.
Very sad. If it’s terrorism, Egypt will respond quickly. We saw how they responded after ISIS horrificially burned one of their military person’s alive. Even the King participated in the response.
Every time I hear of a plane going down my heart sinks to my stomach.
Reading the articles this morning. " swerved 90 degrees to the left and then 360 degrees to the right before diving down." Really at a loss for words.
I would love to see Egypt someday. I love seeing the remnants of ancient civilizations. But with the political unrest and the terrorism, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy myself.

Yes!! Exactly. Important to wait until the facts are out. I don’t have much faith in EgyptAir’s maintenance or training. Pitot heat failure induced stall, lithium battery fire, fuel tank explosion, rudder failure (or stomping on the rudder and quickly reversing it), are all non terrorist acts that have brought down airplanes.
Jumping to conclusions without facts, as the press ALWAYS does, irritates the day lights out of me.
The political climate DEMANDS that all crashes and bad acts be identified as terrorism on the same day ----and if they are not, you are soft on terrorists. Please. Enough already.
