El Camino College Teacher Recommendations

Any teacher recommendations for English 1A and Anthropology 2 at El Camino. Should I take English 1A Honors or Anthropology 2 Honors? I’m in HTP so I need to take one honors course. I’m also taking Physics 1A and Math 191 that semester(FALL 2010). I’m taking
T.Meyer for Math.

Thank You!!!

I would recommend Mannen for Anthro 2. She drops your lowest test score and offers up to 20 points of extra credit. She’s very nice and knowledgeable.

Excellent teachers at ElCo (in no particular order):

N. Freeman (biology), Vakil (astronomy), Ebiner (geography), Laureano-Ribas (math)

ratemyprofessor.com is very helpful

Math 191 will count towards your 5 honors courses, I believe physics does as well.

yup Math 191 does count as an honors course even if it’s not listed as one.

thanks guys… i also would like to know your opinion on taking English 1A Honors. I can take the regular class(waterworth) which i heard is a joke. English has always been my weaker subject and I want to improve. Considering the schedule I have on my first post would you recommend it? Could I maintain a 4.0? Teachers offered for this class are Hong, Breckheimer, Bachmann, Anderson, and Zhao. thanks again!!

Hey i might attend el co in the fall but when do we register for classes? Do I have to set up a counselor/orientation appointment before I am able to register for classes? How do you register do u just go on my ECC and pick classes and pay for it? I submitted my FYE and HTP application and haven’t heard back from them yet.

Leuzinger2010:

Registration for new students began June 8.

There is some kind of orientation you have to do online I believe. You don’t need to meet with a counselor prior to registering for classes.

To register for classes log on to your myECC account. There you will find your registration appointment time.

On myECC you can search and register for classes.

sigh I’m really going to miss ElCo :(

I hate El Camino, mainly because they don’t offer as many classes as other colleges and the next nearest college is at least 30 mins drive without traffic.

???

I work at El Camino in one of the division offices and we always have people who attend other community colleges asking us about classes here at El Camino because their colleges don’t offer them.

A lot of community colleges have also cut their summer sessions. But ElCo hasn’t.

…just defending El Camino :)

I had Cody for English 1a honors and otero for anthro honors. He is a terrible teacher. Cody was really good. I had meyer for 170 and she is really good at explaining things. Honors classes are not hard! My first semester at el co I took 3 honors classes and it wasn’t bad. If you get a chance take lewis for future math classes. I had him for 190 and 191

And yey for ebiner!! He is my favorite teacher at elco. I’ve only had him for one class but I’ve done lots of trips with him. Take a class with him when you do geo!

I finished the orientation and it still says I dont have an appointment time. Registration starts on june 8 right?

why doesn’t elco offer physics 1B anymore…that’s a major course i need. you think they will bring it back?

yess!!! i’m going to take ebiner for geo5H instead of anthropology…i don’t know why but i’m happy. he has soooo many reviews online any you guys recommended him too!

ElCo only offers Physics 1B once a year due to there not being enough demand for it.

It was offered this Spring semester so it will likely be offered next Spring.

oh ic i could take it next spring then. if my scheduling appointment is on June 8 at 12:15 pm is it okay to meet with a counselor and schedule around 5pm because my appointment is at 3:30pm on June 8th. Or will the classes I want get taken?

Mikey-

I think that would be fine. I don’t think a class will fill up that quickly.

But to be honest you may not need to meet with a counselor. Most of the information they have comes from assist.org (tells you what courses you have to take for your major).

But if you’re not sure about something do meet with a counselor. They can clear things up for you. I would recommend meeting with a full-time counselor.

Thanks Rattus, you seem to know everything…i hope you stay on this forum forever so i can ask you questions whenever I need to lol…where are you transfering?
