Elc

Has anyone in the class of 2010 found out if they are ELC yet (I know Berkeley doesn't gurantee acceptance, but there is still an advantage). If not when do you find out about ELC? Thanks folks.

This year, you get a letter in the mail about ELC mid-August.

Thanks so much amarkov!

Hey guys... I'm another class of '10. I got a letter during the year that I was in consideration for ELC, and had to sign something to turn over my transcript for the UC's to look at. Did you have the same thing ivy2010? And does anybody know what the chances are of getting that letter, and then finding out in August that you're NOT ELC?

Sorry for being paranoid... hee hee, just trying to cover all the bases.

I got that letter too. I'm not entirely certain, but I BELIEVE it means that you are ranked high enough in your class to get ELC, so barring any drastic extenuating circumstances you will. Don't quote me on that though, because like I said I am not sure.

well for last year, I think the top 4% based on UC GPA got it. In my class of 400, like around 60 people got the invite, but only 20 or so got elc.

Your HS sends the top 5% (might be more, I forget) of transcripts to UC, which then picks the top 4% to grant ELC status. The reason why they do more than 4% at first is to account for discrepancies between the HS's calculation methods and UC's official ones.

Welcome to ELC

Tada.

FYI: I got the letter (I was in the top 2% of my class when they sent out my transcript) in the summer before senior year. I didn't get ELC, but still got into Berkeley. I know a lot of people think that if they don't get ELC, they won't get into Berkeley, but each case is different.

don't get too excited. UC asks high schools to send transcripts of the top 10-12% of your class. The HS must obtain your permission to release your transcripts. Last year, ELC letters went out thru mid-September.

Yeah, they send out the transcripts for everyone Statewide Eligibile (top 12.5%) of which they pick out the top 4% for ELC. The Statewide people are guaranteed acceptance into the system itself (ie UCR, UCM), while ELC are generally granted guarentees to everywhere Davis and "below".

Also, mid-August seems a bit early to send out stuff, I think Sept is more reasonable. Although ^ I don't know what mean by "through" mid-September.

As to when you find out, I was just checking out the UC website and it says "UC begins mailing ELC notification letters to students at the end of August, and these letters continue through September."

And about being top 4%... if you divide my rank by the number of students, you get 4.5% or so. Does 4.5% count as part of the 4%, or do I miss out?

^No. 4% means 4% and less. Don't wet yourself; it won't make that much of a difference in terms of getting in.

Darn it, I think you're right. I suppose 4.5% is actually part of 5%. Oh well...

thanks everyone, very informative.
