"Election and Politics" forum is closed!

Sure, I’ll miss the forum and many of the people, both left and right…but thanks to one of our favorite posters, there will be another option soon. Don’t have to go without the political fix for too long.

You know, it’s the great thing about freedom. If you don’t like a forum, then don’t go there. You don’t like what you read, then don’t respond. Ain’t nobody forcing anyone to do anything. Of course, it would be quite selfish to get a forum axed for one’s own personal reasons, but I’m sure many factors went into their decision.

And I’ll say, it did go out with rather a whimper. I would have nominated Bogney to compose a hillarious last post. Though I’m glad cartera finally got a chance to have the last word!

The arrogance of some of the posters on that forum was just unbelievable.

I was just thinking that it was bogney’s wit that I will miss. Hope bogney will stick around to post in other threads here.

Some of the more arrogant posters I’ve seen have been on specific college sites. Giving out bad advice, that actually impact people’s lives. At least people could determine bs on the politics forums.

Yes, Bogney really had some classic posts. And for the longest time, I was convinced he was a woman.

Too bad…I would have preferred something a bit less extreme, maybe like making it so the posts there didn’t turn up in searches or on “latest posts.” But I defer to the people who are trying to run the site–if they think it interferes with the mission, OK.

Now what will I do for entertainment when I’m bored?

My feelings evolved from being totally “skeered” and intimidated by the politics forum to being totally skewered and demoralized, then finally really enjoying the brilliant debate. I actually grew to like and respect many of my political adversaries very much. I will miss it.

Why would that be thought of as good?

^ Is that a serious question?

That was exactly the value. I seriously don’t know ANY people like many of the posters there. It was very interesting to actually read the beliefs of the socially and fiscally conservative posters. Most people in my life have VERY different views. I liked learning what was important to those posters, and how they came to the views they have.

Anyone taking bests on how long this “ode to the departed pol forum” lament is going to be permitted to continue? Maybe someone (I nominate bogney) can write a fitting tribute/obituary and then we can get closure.

For those of you whose lives are now empty without the anger and argument of the politics forum I suggest one of two things:

Stay on CC and fill your life back up discussing other things, like colleges and college admissions for example.

It’s a wide-open internet out there. Set up a server and establish your own politics forum. Invite all your old friends and especially your enemies and have at it to your heart’s content.

I nevah went over there. Nevah, nevah, nevah.

Probably not too long, jym. Don’t ya like being erased? Kind of makes you feel like you’re living in Venezuela or something.

And coureur, actually #2 has already happened. You were clairvoyent. As far as #1, some of us are just tired with that. You can only obsess about your childrens applications for so long. And most of us have done that way too much.

I enjoy talking to people on all sides, and there were many trying to dial it down when things got ugly. Amazing how people with different viewpoints can find common ground. If we were all the same, it would be boring. And honestly, “dressing young” and the English royalties weddings are just…boring. Sorry to the creators of those threads.

glad the pol forum regulars are setting up a place to chat. Thats a great plan. For those who only want to discuss politics, thats a great option for them. I am looking forward to a kindler, gentler (but still fun, funny, witty, interesting, entertaining, etc) CC.

When I saw that it was closing, I tried to start a thread entitled “Good night John Boy” but when it was gone, it was gone. As my mother says - “that’s all she wrote.”

If you want to find out the new address for those who want to chat politics, I would be happy to send you a pm link. Busdriver knows the link, too. This will be a bipartisan site.

I can’t post it here - it would be a TOS violation.

The more the merrier.

Where’d you see that???

Coreur. not all of us want to spend our lives talking about our children and what college they got into, or when the next SAT/ACT.

You are missing that fact with your number 1 comment when Parents Cafe is littered with Prince William’s engagement, GLEE, Sinner’s Alley and Get it off you chest threads.

As Busdriver stated you were clairvoyent, a new forum has already popped up inviting people from both sides of the fence to join. What does that mean to CC? It means to posters who have kids in college and completed the process, but remained because of this option will now leave. Supply and demand.

I will now check in just for the heck of it to see if anything rocks my boat, but now I will be like the few others who have acknowledge the new forum and leave.

Check out my count it is close to 3K in 3 yrs. I have 2 kids in college, and now if I walk away I take my personal experience with me in the admission process. Who actually loses here?

To me what was the sweat of off anyone’s back who did not post on P & E? Did anyone force them to go on that forum? All that occurred was the loss of members who had been here for years and only stayed because they found a social network with people that are politically motivated.

Samurai, you can add me to the list for links…and yes, NBA, we may disagree, but isn’t that why P & E was originally created?

I am pretty sure I will be banned by the end of today, so if so, my best wishes to everyone.

jym it is a sticky at the top of P & E. It isn’t closing, instead it is CLOSED, it happened yesterday @4:45 p.m. That is why Cartera is saying he is taking pride in being the last post ever for P & E.

What I meant was that when I saw the thread that said it was closing, I didn’t realize that it was already closed. I thought there might be a short time left so I tried to make a “goodbye” thread.
