“Hear, here” bandp -

a little homage to Hindoo in my reply.

Posters come and go all the time. This includes longtime posters who have lots of valuable experience to share, some of whom have left because of the change in tone that I feel is associated with the pol forum. It all works out in the longrun. Hope you don’t choose to leave entirely, B&P.

If your main purpose on CC was to argue politics, I doubt you will be missed. There are many reasons to stay on CC beyond your kids’ college years. I enjoy helping others with the selection and application process and I enjoy many of the threads in the cafe. The political forum wasn’t around that long and wasn’t the meat of CC.

I’d like to have the link to the new politics forum. The CC election and politics forum was opened at exactly the time my son had emergency surgery and it was one of the few things that was able to hold my interest during a very long month in the hospital with him. I didn’t post much because I knew if I waited someone else would say what I wanted to say, and do it more articulately. But I loved reading it.

My main purpose was posting about college (which I still do quite a bit of), yet the politics provided me an outlet that I can’t use in my regular life.

I don’t know how long the political forum was up, but I have been posting on it for more than 2 years. I believe it had been around back to the 2004 election, or at least there was posting about politics, then.

I think it was opened as a result of Sara Palin.

All I can say, is that from reading some of these posts from people whom are happy about the demise of e&p, there is plenty of snark left to go around. I’m sure it will be evenly spread around the rest of the forums.

Why anyone would be smugly satisfied that a forum no one was ever forced to read is shut down, is beyond me. Sounds rather selfish. I’d much rather see the threads that mislead people about important things that affect their lives, or attack people merely trying to gain information disappear. Though there has been some excellent information we have gained from cc.

That’s what I seem to remember…I think it opened in the midst of the 2008 election.

And if anyone cares, my prayer at the municipal meeting went just fine…short and extremely generic…only athiests could have objected and even with them, only as to the existence of a prayer at all, not its content.

What has me upset the most was I fully intended to announce my run for the Presidency in 2012 at the beginning of the new year on the E&P threads. (figured I’d beat most of the other candidates to the punch).

Guess I’ll have to make that announcement somewhere else now. Perhaps on the other site now?

Dont see anyone being “smug”. See people with opinions about that forum. And as there, opinions vary. But if accusations begin to swirl, or postulations/interpretations about the thoughts or feelings of others get proposed and the tone of this thread begins to head south, then surely this discussion will be brought to a close. I am guessing maybe by day’s end…

I’ll miss that forum. It wasn’t a big group, but a small group, and almost all of the threads eventually degenerated into a kind of good-hearted joking around with each other and about ourselves.

I don’t think the posters on that forum took themselves that seriously, which is why it was the way it was. I guess some people got thier feelings hurt, which is unfortunate. I’m sure the political snarkiness will leak all over the board now instead of being contained in the one place.

Good luck to you all.

Well, Bullet, maybe you should just make your announcement on the “dressing young” thread (at least you could get all of us middle aged ladies on board with the vote). And I’m assuming poetgrl will be your running mate (the new and improved Sarah Palin—just kidding pg)!

I’m glad your prayer went well, missypie. Sometimes the worry is worse than the actual event.

Huh. We had an election and politics sub-forum? Who knew?

This site is not mine and it is not yours. It has an owner and it is moderated by volunteers. I am not involved in the management of the site, but I suspect the political forum required a disproportionate amount of time- even with “light” moderating. I thought the political forums were to keep all the fighting out of the main forums during the 2008 election build-up and aftermath. That was accomplished. I just don’t think it added to the main purpose of the site anymore than an entire section on pro football players would add. I don’t see my remarks as being “smug” or “snarky”. Go find another playground.

b&p:
Re post# 39
yes- I saw last night that it had been closed yesterday, and had in fact responded to busdriver’s query last evening about why she couldn’t get onto it, with a link to, and later a quote from, Roger’s thread. As I mentioned, the posts about this (in another thread) were deleted. I never saw that it was closING, but that it was closED. I thought maybe cartera saw something that gave the head’s up to its impending swan song, so was looking for clarification.

Anyone working on a fitting eulogy?? Perhaps in the form of a limerick …
There once was a thread in the forum
That had varying levels of decorum…

suggestions to finish the limerick??

I agree, why would it matter to anyone? It was not if P & E was like Craig’s list selling sex? Yes, people were brutally honest, but people here have said that honesty changed their opinions.

I am one of them.

I was ignorant because to me I felt that people who were gay should be classified as unions, until other posters made me realize that was offensive because it is a marriage.

Cafe didn’t change me. P & E did.

P & E conversations made me constantly question my stance. By this fact alone, I believe I am a better member of society, more importantly a better parent to my kids dealing with 21st Century issues.

Busdriver is right nobody forced anybody to hit that blue link. It was the posters option.

How would posters feel if the get it off your chest thread or sinner’s alley disappeared? How would you feel to read unless it was college related it was off limits? Would you stay?

MofWC, I like you a lot, but wasn’t it @ 2 yrs ago the was a giant thread regarding your child’s wedding? Nobody was forced to read/partake in that thread, and in essence, that is what people are saying here. Nobody is forcing anyone to cross over into P & E. You wanted to talk about wedding issues, just as a few months ago I wanted to talk about the death in our hs. None of these topics had anything to do with college.

To me the irony is now this is a big issue and a larger headache for the mods.

JYM, you must remember I am pima of bulletandpima. Bullet is the one that will finish off the limerick. ;)

Perhaps we could set up a pool and try to guess the date that they reinstate the Election and Politics Thread. The tri-fecta could include whether Bristol wins DWTS and Sarah tries to get royalties for Willow for the “you ■■■■■■” *Compassionate Conservative *T-shirts now on sale.

missypie-- how low cut a neckline on this classic T-shirt can one have and not be dressing too young?

“I don’t see my remarks as being “smug” or “snarky”. Go find another playground.”

You don’t see any irony in putting those two statements together? :D

That’s a great start to the limerick, jym! But to make it fair, it must continue to be a bipartisan limerick.

There is a reason politics was broken off into a separate section entirely and it was because an attempt was made to moderate in a different manner. It is a highly charged topic and people went beyond the bounds of respectful dialogue (I assume). If that happens in a thread about weddings or deaths in high schools, the threads are closed and posters might be sanctioned.
To me, this is just like when facebook makes changes. Everyone gets all bent out of shape and forgets that they don’t own the site. If the owner of CC shut down Sinner’s Alley or some such thread, I would figure out a way to live with it.

I think it will be a moderating issue for a short time, but the terms of service on the regular part of the site are very clear. It was the political section that was an exception. It was an experiment and someone (not me) determined that it didn’t work.
