Hello all,
During junior year, I will have one elective spot open (in addition to another one, which I will be doing Art 2 H with). I will be taking APUSH, AP Chem, AP Calc BC, AP ELang, Spanish 4 H, and Art 2 H in junior year, and I was wondering if I should give myself a free during that elective period, or take another class.
If I were to take a class, I’ve narrowed down my options to AP Psych, AP Stats, AP Economics, AP Enviro, AP Physics C: Mechanics, Human Anatomy and Physiology H, or Creative Writing H/Geology H (these two are semester-long).
I would just like everyone’s input to aid me in my decision.
Thank you for reading this post, and have a joyful day.
This is a heavy schedule. You should choose depending on what you’ll be able to handle without sacrificing sleep (8 hours a night). If you can do that, I’d pick the class you’re most interested in but NOT AP PHysics C (if you’re interested, take it senior year). Personally I’d go with creative writing and geology, but creative writing is typically fun and geology typically involves field trips!
@MYOS1634 Thank you so much! I have confided with upperclassmen, and one of them has 4 APs and 2 Honors and he says he received 1-3 hours of hw a night in Junior year. I foresee that I will have around 3-5 hours of time devoted to ECs (not including transportation) per day (though probably 4-6 hours on the weekends), so I think I will probably have time to add in the Creative Writing and Geology since they are more easy-going classes and play to my interests more than some of my other options.
Also, there is an Organic Chemistry H class that takes place from 8am-noon on Saturdays (with no weekday class times) that my school offers. I am unsure of the workload, and it is primarily a lab class, but I am considering it. If I don’t take it Junior year, I could also potentially take in senior year.
You don’t need to be in class on Saturday morning. You won’t make the difference because you took extra classes. Read how to be a high school superstar by Cal Newport.
I interested in taking it mostly because of the science components, and I am very interested in science, but if it conflicts with anything I’m doing, I probably won’t take it.
