Email Invitation - Accepted Student

I’ve been accepted to the University, and I’m an OOS student.
I got into the University with a 27 ACT, but have since received a 30. I know that I was admitted to the university using the 27 because I didn’t receive notice of my ACT score until after I was admitted.

However, I recently received an email inviting me to Ohio State Scholars Day.

Part of the email:
You’re invited to Scholars Day
You and your parents are invited to Ohio State Scholars Day–a special visit program for selected high-achieving students. At Ohio State Scholars Day we’ll explain the following:

* Benefits of being a Scholar at Ohio State

 • Scholars application process
 • What we look for in our Scholars

Anyone know anything about this? Obviously, I’m unable to attend as that is right smack in the middle of the school year and I’m all the way in Arizona, not Ohio.

Does this mean I’m invited to be a scholar?

Also as a side note, I looked at the requirements, and I oddly don’t meet either requirement.
I’m ranked in the top 15% of my class but received a 30 on the ACT.
Also, the only reason my rank is low is because I’m enrolled in a lot of arts/music classes.

Call the admissions office and let them know the situation. Did you have your ACT sent to the University? You are probably eligible for the Honors program with the 30 ACT. There is some additional scholarship money with the Honors program. The web site will explain the difference between the two programs. I know some students in both programs; those in Scholars think it is better than Honors, but those in Honors seem happy with their program. From what I understand Scholars is more service oriented while Honors is more academic.

My D was accepted into Honors and will be trying for the Maximus Scholarship next month. Not likely she will get it as the numbers aren’t good (10/1500), but hey, money is money and it is worth a shot. You might be eligible for that now too. You should make the call.

pretty sure you met the scholars requirement: 27 act top 20% class rank. you’re thinking of 30 act and 10% rank for honors

Thanks for the correction Einstein. I haven’t looked at the numbers for a while. Like I said, there are many who are very happy to be a part of the scholars program. I would think a person would like to be a part of it, especially when coming from OOS. From what I understand, there are different service groups within scholars and they can be quite social beginning on day one.

See, that’s where I’m confused. I have a 30 ACT but I’m in the top 15% of the class. So I’m like, in between.
But also like I said, the only reason my rank is low is because I’ve taken 2 music classes every year (orchestra and marching band) so the non-weight pulls my rank down. I have a 4.2 W gpa and a 3.8 UW. Which for most schools would be in the top 10%, haha.

And I did send my new ACT to OSU. It just got there after I was accepted.

I have heard that both the Honors and Scholars programs are great. You qualify for Scholars but if you want the Honors program you might need to contact Admissions and discuss the class rank situation. I know the school is strict about class rank qualifications for scholarship purposes. Good luck.
