How is there not already a thread on this? DH & I watched on DVR an hour behind live and we were not fans. Did anyone watch? What did you think?

I only watched a few minutes. It wasn’t very exciting and they really didn’t give the awardees any time to say their thank yous. I switched the channel.

I love NPH but thought he wasn’t especially funny. Biggest crack up probably came from Tina Fey and Amy P in the audience - funny ladies.

Didn’t make it through quite the whole show - maybe an hour left to FF through tonight - but always LOVE the red carpet and THAT was great - some beautiful dresses (and some flops!)

Loved Jim Parsons little verklempt moment when he won. Hated that they cut off people who won and barely had a chance to talk - why not cut out some of the presenters banter that was not so funny???

Thought the memorials were a little awkward - though Jane Lynch did a beautiful and frank tribute to Cory and his untimely death.

I have never heard of the show Veep - it won lots of awards! We have a tv critic in the family - gonna have to ask more about this show!

I didn’t watch but was very happy to hear that Jeff Daniels won for The Newsroom! Well-deserved.

abasket, Veep is a very funny show, although the humor may not be appreciated by everyone. Julie Louis-Dreyfus leads a terrific ensemble cast. Season 3 is coming in 2014.

Watched a bit here and there. It was not funny, nor entertaining.

I was very happy to see Jeff Daniels win for the Newsroom. It is a fabulously written show and the acting is excellent.

I DVR’d it and am watching now. I ff through everything but the actual awards but I really only watch for the fashion.

VEEP is an awesome show! Julia Louise Dreyfus deserves that Emmy! The show is so fast and smart you can watch every episode twice and still miss some of its brilliance. My favorite character is Gary (Tony Hale, who also won an Emmy last night), he is amazing, and his bit on stage last night with JLD when she accepted was hilarious. Some people might be put off by the profanity, but the writing is so sharp they even take profanity to a whole new level. My favorite show on TV right now :)

I think I’m exactly the audience they were trying to appeal to with the segment on the importance of television recalling the JFK assasination and the Beatles invasion on Ed Sullivan. I was totally put off by the whole thing and really hated that Carrie Underwood butchered Yesterday so badly. I enjoy her as a country musician, but that song was not for her. I understand she has been selected to play Maria in a live version of The Sound of Music. I can’t imagine how that was or will be a good idea.

I like Carrie, but man, seems she ends up on EVERY awards show! She must be very willing to perform.

I love VEEP, too and The Newsroom - which is now my fav show. Frustrating to have to wait almost a year for season 3! I also really liked Enlightened, but I’m pretty sure there won’t be a season 3. :(

I rarely watch awards shows anymore, but got through the Emmys on DRV by alternating with Food Network shows and the Nats game (about 7 hours of programming in 3 hours) I was actually fairly entertained, even though I’m not familiar with most of the nominated shows. Especially happy about the Colbert Report wins!

I love Jeff Daniels and the Newsroom…so wished he had removed his gum before making his acceptance speech…for me, chewing gum whilst talking is the same as eating whilst talking.

^^ Same here, justforthis! That was so gross.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Merritt Wever win for best Supporting Actress. She is so terrific in Nurse Jackie. I’ve since seen her in a couple of other shows (The New Girl, for one) but she really shines in Nurse Jackie.

I DVR’d the whole thing just to see the dancing/presentation of choreography award. I must admit to being a bit underwhelmed, though I am glad they did it on the prime time show…

I watched Breaking Bad and caught up on the Emmy’s by watching key snippets online. Saved lots of time! I was so diappointed to see that Jeff Daniels won for his perfectly ordinary performance in that undistinguished show. (I know some love it, but I watched a few episodes and was so appalled by Sorkin’s sexism and simplistic political haranguing that I fled.) And I’m not the only one befuddled by that win–commentators everywhere are scratching their heads this morning. I can only guess that the voters split their votes equally among the other, far more deserving nominees. I was thrilled to see Anna Gunn and Tony Hale get their richly deserved awards and sad that Amy Poehler was overlooked again.

Can’t say enough good things about Veep, and I also highly recommend Armando Iannucci’s earlier series The Thick of It, also a political satire, but set in Britain, and very funny. Sorting out the accents and the government structure can be a little daunting, but definitely worth a good binge watch.

Only watched moments of the show here and there, but was reading an article about Underwood’s performance today. Evidently, she generated over 17,00 tweets per minute during her performance. One of the sample tweets was this: Some people never forget where they were when JFK got shot, but I will never forget where I was when Carrie Underwood murdered The Beatles.

OUCH! And to be transparent, I don’t even like country music.

edited post

Jeff Daniels <3 :)

Same here. When they first started talking about this fabulous complicated dance they were going to do, I thought maybe they’d recreate or at least give a nod to that amazing “Puttin’ on the Ritz” number from SYTYCD this season. Hard to believe that with all of that talent in the room, this was the best they could come up with.

I started watching the show, planning to switch over to Breaking Bad at 9 PM, but I only lasted until 8:40. It was the worst, most awkward, dullest awards show I have ever seen (and how much ground does that cover?). What were they trying to prove with that opening? You have NPH and you don’t open with a musical number?

I’ve watched some acceptances on YouTube. Nice to see some very classy acceptance speeches. And Vince Gilligan finally getting an Emmy for the show most people/critics acknowledge as among the very best ever made - about time, Academy.
