Emory just sent us an e-mail about the latest time I could remain on their wait-list. What should I put for the date? Preferably I would like to know earlier, but if it increases my chances to put the last date, I don’t mind waiting. What do you think?

This is an interesting question. I’d like to know the answer as well.
Thanxx guys =)

At some time you will need to get busy with your university: get there, move in, go thnrough orientation, etcetera.
What particular month and day do you think you will need to start things with the other university?
Also, what particular month and day do you think you will need to start things with Emory?
The earlier of those two days is likely your “need to know by” date.

^all good advice. There is a phrase “summer melt” for those students who were accepted, put down deposits, then change their mind and go elsewhere. If you can wait until Aug 1, you might see a spot open up (from someone who melted). If you really really want to do everything possible to increase your chances at getting off the WL, put the latest possible outside date you can.

Thanks for your advice, I will put August 1 then! By the way, how can you go elsewhere unless you are on a waitlist on another school? Say you deposited at Emory and by June you realise you prefer school X over it, but wouldn’t school X already have replaced you?

Right – a spot for you might free up if someone else was accepted at Emory, put down the deposit, but they were on the WL at another school and then got off that WL and went there instead of Emory. Or if something changed financially and they suddenly couldn’t afford Emory, and they had an acceptance in the bag from another school. Or if they deposited at 2 schools (frowned upon, but unless the 2 schools share info, there’s no way to prohibit this).

Hope it works out for you.
