Actually, that doesn’t surprise me much at all. IME, most of the highly gifted/intellectual/bright people I’ve met in my life tend to be introverts.

While there are some extroverted gifted/intellectual/bright folks…when comparing the ones I’ve met…including myself to our introverted counterparts…there’s no comparison.

From observing myself and other extroverts along with observing introverts…the former tend to be far too distracted being social, participating in the hubbub, trying to impress, and impatient rather than/to taking some necessarily time alone to actually learn about a given subject/field or the world around them in greater depth.

OK, this thread popped up again today and made me feel guilty because I haven’t called my mom in 2 weeks. So I tried and she wasn’t home. Not too many places for a 91 year old who doesn’t drive to go, but she occasionally catches a shuttle to the store.

I have a college freshman son like the OP’s and have realized it’s OK for him not to call every week like D does. Every now and then I text him and ask if he is alive and he will text back ‘yes’. He calls when he wants to use my credit card to make an online purchase. I’m not much of a phone chatter either, so I understand. I worry about his social skills and making connections for jobs, etc, but he will have to work that out as he goes along in life.
