“What is the procedure for end-of-year packing before leaving the dorm, and does Loomis Chaffee offer storage for students?”
Don’t know, but we are curious about that, too, as my DD will begin freshman year at Loomis this fall. Posting this to bump the post and hopefully get some eyes!
Can’t speak for Loomis, but the general procedure for end of year packing is that the student packs up their dorm room by themselves.
Most schools don’t offer storage. You purge what isn’t needed. For the rest, pay for local storage or ship/transport home. If you’re really lucky, the kid has befriended a day student whose family will store in the attic/basement/garage.
I found this article addressing the shortage of dorm storage space for Loomis students. The school offers direct shipping services from campus as well as graduating senior ship-to-college services. I also found this link that describes how UPS partners with Loomis for summer storage.
We used a similar service (All Campus Storage) while our son was at Choate. He simply ordered the number/size of boxes he needed online, and they were delivered to his dorm with bar code labels and tape. He packed up his stuff, affixed the labels, left the boxes in his room, the service picked them up and stored them all summer, and then they magically appeared in his new room at the start of the next school year. Easy peasy.
Important Parent Safety Tip: Never plan on helping your student with move-out. You don’t want to know…
thank you so much!
