Engineers Math SAT score

sat 1 math: 750
sat 2 math 1 & 2: 720

rejected: mit, olin
accepted: umcp(full tuition, attending), rpi, cornell, cmu, case, washu, rutgers, and a whole bunch of other places not really worth mentioning

800 Math 750 Verbal ( Personally though I think that the SAT’s don’t prove anything, the math could of been done by a kindergardner)
Ap Calc AB 5
Ap Calc BC 5

Went to Georgia Tech

650 on Math, I am going to be a senior but i will be going to UT Austin.

720 SAT, 750 SAT II

in: UIUC, UPenn
out: cornell

(sophomore transfer though)
guess the idea is to see how FAST you can think, all the questions are simple for a 16-18 year old wanting to go into engineering…

800 on SAT, 800 on SAT II, 5 on calc BC. currently struggling to stay alive at cornell lol.

don’t fret so much about test scores though. they’re a good measure of raw IQ, but that’s not entirely what schools look for.

SAT is useless IMO. I have met a lot of students who have SAT math 780+ and are nonetheless doing miserable in engineering courses.

ACT: 32
SAT II: 780

A: MSU, UMich
R: MIT

800 SAT, 780 math II

going to ucsb, though i feel my gpa must have counted against me more than i thought as i got waitlisted at CMU and seems like everyone else got in.

800 GaTech

When i visited UT, one of the student helpers said that his roommate had like a 1230 on the SAT and was graduating with a 3.87 in engineering and was going to NYU law. So SAT math, or SAT in general does not indicate that much.

oh, no reason why i said ucsb, i meant usc if anyone cares.

S got (math) 800 and 750 on SATs 1 and 2 respectively.

Rejected at Yale

Accepted UMCP (Honors, full scholarship, attending), Duke , WashU, U of Miami (Honors, full tuition), UNC (Honors), Pitt (Honors, full tuition),

Math: 780 - SAT’s taken once
Applied to Cornell ED: Accepted
Applied to UMich Rolling: Accepted

710 for SATI
I’m applying this fall and now that I’m looking around I’m getting worrieddd.

520 Math II
590 Math I
620 Math Sat I

Major: Computer and Electrical Engineering
Not Legacy, First Generation, and im White.

Accepted: Carnegie Mellon (ED), Penn State, Drexel
Rejected: None

Withdrawn: Cornell, WPI, RPI, Bucknell, RIT

No offense, but what did you have going that got you into CMU ED? I don’t think I met knew anyone while I was there with a sub-650 Math SAT score, and most of us were in the pretty high 700s on the IIc test.

Lol, I knew id get that response, which is why i posted it. I guess SATs dont matter as much as yall would think.

The Early Decision Financial Aid Letter:
[finaid1-1.jpg picture by sayspo - Photobucket](<a href=“Photo Storage”>Photo Storage)

I had some unusual hobbies, and an interview.

Congrats metalforever! Grant, loan and work study aid is based on demonstrated financial need (I think), so your SAT scores would not come into play there. Just curious since you wrote “yall”, what state are you from?

In State. I live in Pennsylvania(but, 5 hours away from pittsburgh, and 3 from philadelphia).

The problem with PA is that even though there is pittsburgh and philadelphia, anything inbetween is alabama. That becomes completely obvious to any one who decides to go to a pittsburgh school, because you travel 10 miles out and its stix. Also, when it snows, the snow stays on the road for weeks, and melts, freezes, melts, freezes, so the roads and sidewalks are one big ice fest (so, its not uncommon to have a 2 hour delay around 3 days a week in the winter, even if it hasnt really snowed too much).

As far as SAT scores go and merit financial aid, i knew i wasnt getting anything. I actually have the highest SAT scores in the class (hard to believe, i know), but i knew i had no chance in regards to getting anything unless its need-based. Luckily, I live in hicksville/mud bog and hunting central (i almost walked into a dead deer hanging on someones porch on my way to school a little while ago), and there are no jobs(side walmart, a hospital, and a prison, maybe some factories but they kind of shut down), so I qualify.

In regards to what i did to get in (I didnt have the time this morning to comment), I was a weird case. I dont have very many school related EC’s besides odyssey of the mind(never got past states), and some math and chess stuff, so I wasnt winning any awards there. Im not an athlete. I wasnt a national merit scholar or anything like that.

What I did was I packaged the ECs I did into what i called an activities resume. Most of my ECs are personal. Examples of things that were on these freestyled sheets was me sewing my own clothing and items, creating my own linux distro (LFS), getting a job and building a computer with the money, artwork, and owning a paranormal website. I have pictures to accompany most of these activities (such as the leather punk jacket with studs i made). What I did was relate everything that i enjoy doing extracurricular-wise into community activities that I partake in, such as nonprofit computer repair, sewing at my local church for needy people, helping people troubleshoot linux because I understand the inner workings, etc. I sent this in the mail to carnegie mellon addressed to the specific adcom that I had interviewed with.

This was in response to a comment my interviewer made saying that I might want to submit something a little extra. I mentioned my sat scores being low, but i didnt really give any excuses except to say that i would retake them ( and i brought them up, the scores i mentioned are superscored.) I generally know how to interview because obviously i previously held a job (which was at an amusement park), where I had to interact with people on a daily basis. She mentioned that i might get into CIT, but not the electrical engineering program (which i got into.), and I was generally at peace with her saying that because i knew it. I had answers for pretty much every question I was asked, side what I would bring different to the table at carnegie mellon, which I decided to save for the essay.

The essay I had to do on the common app is as follows:

“Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.”

I talked about my paranormal/parapsychological website/organization. I told them about the difficulty of telling others about what I feel as an accomplishment, and how people frown upon what I do. I mentioned the difficulty i had with my parents, and how i kind of had to keep the site a secret. I went on to say what i learned from such experiences, and how i keep true to my goals regardless of what other people think about them.

I went on to discuss why people may frown upon parapsychology in relation to my website/organization. I told about how its hard to gain accurate information because of having to weed out the people that know what they are talking about from the people that dont. I also discussed about finding competent volunteer staff with which to lead the community, and how i work with people of all ages toward a common cause. I told them what i learned from such experiences and how I thought it would benefit me at carnegie mellon.

The supplemental essay i stripped of all flowery writing and introductions because i figured it wasnt needed. The essay asked why i chose carnegie mellon and my major specifically. I separated the question into parts, which were outlined in bold, and i provided my answers below. For the why carnegie mellon part, I put down original thoughts that wouldnt apply to other schools, and they werent stereotypical. For the why engineering part i told them about how i think of successful engineers in terms of a few metaphors, which i went on to explain. The why electrical engineering part, I put a story about how i lost my 10 page final paper for school, and how i decided that building a computer would be cheaper than buying one. I told them how i got a job and paid for that, and how i enjoyed it, and went on to fixing electronics and making presentations.

For the recommended reading list, i didnt put school ones, or normal books. I put

The design of everyday things

opening closed minds and persuading others to act favorably

the god theory

Psi, What is it? The story of esp and pk: an introduction to parapsychology.

So, there you have it, you be the judge i guess.
