<p>Has anyone got any general advice for someone from the UK aiming to go to an American college? As I have been told that I could get into Oxbridge if I stayed on my current track, I’m hoping to get into one of America’s equivalent elites; if not, I’ll go to Oxford first, then take a second degree in America.</p>

<p>most of the posts of this forum are from people wanting to studying in the UK. I think you should post this in the main International students section and then you will get some better answers.</p>
<p>Depending on your age, I would recommend that you have a good and consistent list of extra curricular activites. they will not look past the fact that just because you are english you therefore do not have a good ec list. soo basically, start in Y10 building up a good resume and continuously improve and expand on it as you progress. try not to do 20 different things. just 3 or 4 things which you are really committed to. good luck</p>
<p>^ charned is right. American colleges are much more interested in the holistic applicant. British applicants (esp those looking at possible Oxbridge places) think only in terms of the academic requirements and don’t “get” that it is wholly different in the States. I would try to take in addition to the SATs/ACTs, some SAT subject tests as well as you will have only AS results to show before you are asking an American university to accept you (remember American offers are for all intents and purposes unconditional–they are not dependent upon the results of your A levels they way UK offers would be…)</p>
