English Placement

Ok, on the ASU website, it says this about English Placement:
"If you have an ACT English score of 26 or higher, or an SAT verbal score of 620 or higher, you may take ENG 105 to fulfill your First-Year Composition requirement. Students may also qualify for ENG 105 by achieving appropriate scores on the CLEP General Examination in English Composition with Essay or the CLEP Subject Examination in College Composition with Essay. For CLEP Examination information, contact University Testing Services at www.asu.edu/uts or 480.965.7146.

If you have an ACT English score of 19-26, or an SAT verbal score of 470-620, you will take a two-semester sequence to fulfill your First-Year Composition requirement. The courses in that sequence are ENG 101 and ENG 102. "

I got a 610 on SAT CR, so according to this, I will be in ENG 101 and ENG 102…but I also got accepted to Barrett…so will I be able to take the advanced course because of my honors status? ALSO! I got a 5 on the AP Eng. Lang test, so I tested out of 1 semester of english, does that mean I will not have an english class my first semester of ASU, or does that mean I will be taking second semester english, first semester?

I am going to ask an advisor during my orientation next month, but I kind of wanted to know how it worked beforehand.

Thanks!

If you really want to take Eng 105, I’m sure they’ll let you as you’re extremely close to the cut-off and have the AP credit. I’ll likely have IB credit for english as well, but I think I’ll just be taking 105 1st semester, then maybe a business writing class later on (something like that in one of those skill tracks).

If they are really stringent about the cut-off points, just CLEP out of 101/102 to take 105, but hopefully it won’t come to that.

Okay, at orientation, they will NOT let you take 105 if you do not have a 620 or above, they are VERY stringent about it. BUT, Eng. 105=Eng. 101 + Eng. 102, so if you have tested out of 101, like i have, then you only need to take 102, since 105 would be twice as much work, but you get the same credit.
