Enough AP'S to be an echols scholar?

Freshman year 0 AP
Sophomore year 1 AP
Junior Year 7 AP
Senior Year 7* AP (One of the classes is ap econ which encompasses macro and micro so essentially 8 AP’s)

15 AP Classes taken, 16 AP courses/credits attained

I only took 1 AP my sophomore year because I did orchestra 9th and 10th grade, planning to quit it 11th and 12th grade.

Are these enough APs to be an Echols scholar?

(Only ap classes I am not planning to take are AP Comp sci A and AP Physics C)

I’m at a total loss at the AP game. My son’s hs only offers 16 total AP classes–inc 3 for foreign languages. His GC only even recommends 5-8 total AP classes for kids hoping to get into selective colleges.

Yet on CC, it seems most students take like 12 to 472 AP classes…

Im just curious, because on the UVa website it says [Students] “whom we believe are among the University’s most intellectually curious, broad thinking, and self-motivated students and its most avid learners.”

Op, I should have made clear: your drive and accomplishments are indeed very impressive. Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question, but I’m sure a more knowledgeable CC poster can and will in short order.

The number of APs taken does not drive our selection of Echols Scholars. We find a lot of evidence of the qualities we lay out on the website in essays and teacher/counselor recs. I’ve written about this on the blog several times over the years.
