Essay ideas!

Hey guys,

One of the essays for transfers into McIntire is (I’m paraphrasing):

“If you could send one item to another planet to represent the human race, what would you send?”

Anyone want to bounce around a few ideas with me?

bump.

Anyone? I’ve got a few creative ideas brewing…just thought I’d see what direction everyone else is taking.

you could do something business-related like, idk, BusinessWeek or Forbes.
or maybe you could send a laptop w/ facebook and explain that facebook seems to represent how the internet has taken over the human race, completely putting one’s social life online.

I like the “laptop with Facebook” idea.

Not bad.

Our culture has certainly changed in the last few decades…that could be worth exploring.

This particular writing prompt has me biting my nails because I have a feeling they look to it to evaluate a persons creativity.

I’m plenty creative, so I am trying to refine my ideas down until I have one great one.

Thanks for the input! :)

The human race has an infinite number of facets and personalities (some good, some not so good), so try to think of a single item that can represent many different
things.

I would send a strip of bacon. Honestly, if any alien got a strip of bacon they would immediatly love our country. Even if the alien is a vegan, the sweet smell of bacon could change his mind very quickly.

I’ve got a few ideas.

Do you guys think that the delivery of the idea is more important than the actual idea? I have a feeling they are looking at the essay as a creative writing exercise, and not caring as much about the idea. Thoughts?

Yes, I believe the essay is more creative writing. The Adcoms want to see who the writer is through this essay.
