I’ve got the NC writing test coming up this Tuesday and I really want to ace it. Now, anyone has got any types of essay suggestions? Well, my major problem is w/ my intro…when I can’t get a good intro, I just can’t write it! I know abt the strategy of doing the body paragraphs earlier…but it doesn’t work either. Since, the essays are really subjective, i’d appreciate any related suggestions…
Thanks in advance.

Write a standard 5-paragraph essay. Don’t do anything creative. Pick a point, stick with it, and back it up with examples.

Also, watch your grammar and spelling because those are super important for this standardized test.

And…don’t worry about “acing it.” You just need to pass.

I hate 5 paragraph essays, but for some reason that is what they like to see.

I wrote 4 paragraphs on the writing test in my state…I hope that won’t work against me.

leah, almost ‘everyone’ can pass it…our english teacher really worked terribly hard for 6 weeks w/ this only thing…she wants atleast 20 ‘acing scores’ (from 10th grade of 550 students). I’ve been thoroughly consistent in her class, I just want to show it’s implementation in the writing test.
Yeah, I’d go w/ five para too, I was just wondering like what r the cool ways of conclusions and inventive transitions…
As for transitions…I’m confined to only a few like,For example, Take for example, Thereforth, Hence, Neverthless, In contrary, Pursuing this furthere…etc. like this…transitions are the most important part of all. …anyone knows some more?

bump…

Transitions are for the weak.

I never use them.
I got a 12 on the SAT essay, too, for what it’s worth.

Well…we’ve got 90 minutes to write this essay as opposed to 25 min SAT Section…It’s a lot different…and they’ve included that sentence flow and structures are really important…Transitions are undeniably important!

often, transition words are wordy and make your writing really mechanical. i agree with leah. you should just let your writing flow rather than using forced transitions

Actually, since the test is this Tuesday, I don’t want to do any experiements…yes, i agree w/ y’all…I hardly use transitions when i write essays for any other thing except in English Class!
