Essay Tips?

I’m having a rough time writing my essays so I need some tips, please!

Here’s my advice: put everything that comes to mind onto paper. Every thought, phrase, and idea regarding your essay needs to be put on a paper. Throw it all out there.

Yep. Set a timer and do stream of consciousness writing BY HAND for 10 minutes. Write everything that comes to mind without censoring yourself.

Then take a break (10 mins) and go back and highlight or underline any interesting ideas or phrases…

Then pick one to elaborate on, again stream of consciousness, for another 10 minutes.

Then review that, highlight the best bits, open your laptop and start drafting an essay based on what you’ve highlighted so far.

I’m also having a tough time thinking of essay topics… any tips on those? on how to write an essay that stands out to AOs?

Just start writing the first things that come to mind when you think of the essay prompts. Steam of consciousness writing willwarm up your brain, loosen things up. Or ignore our advice and continue to procrastinate by asking a bunch of strangers for ideas based on ZERO knowledge of you or the prompts

Most schools have multiple prompts for you to choose from. Pick the prompt that will allow you to write an essay that will showcase your character, passions, and how you’ve contributed to your community.

I agree with @CaliMex 100%. This is not the best time to procrastinate considering the fact that we’ve got less than 2 weeks to submit our applications. Believe in yourself!

Tip: if you think your essay is mediocre, then the admissions officer will think that they’re mediocre as well. Try to construct an essay that you’re proud of and would gladly boast about. I

Consider asking one of your current teachers for suggestions.
