essays

Is it true that the essays are more as a way for the adcoms to get a sense of who you are, rather than an assessment of your writing ability?

bumpity bump bump

Yes.

But it is easier to convey who you are if you write well.

So in other words, a few minor typos don’t really hurt you (given that they don’t skew the writer’s intent), but it’s more about the ideas you convey, which will hopefully give more a sense of who you are.

I feel like we are having this convo on two threads :)

I made a couple of silly errors on my Yale EA app and still got in, but in all those cases it was fairly obvious what I intended. So yes, it is about the story/ideas which tells them WHO you are, not so much on how you write it.

But as my previous post notes - less mistakes = clearer communication of who you are. If they are just small typo’s, mis-types (father - grandfather) I am sure it will make no difference.

and what would you say about “tail” instead of “tale”?
