UPitt is my # 1 school but I think that money will be the reason why I wont go.

So my EFC=0 so I’m eligible for the ACG and Pell and FSEOG but they dont come anywhere close to Pitt’s tuition. I’m not taking out loans, NONE.!

Pitt’s tuition is around $23, 500 (rough approximation) so how much institutional based funds will they give? (an estimate will be nice:))

Depends on you stats
Chances are very good that unless you are close to a 1500 SAT (M/CR) that you will be facing a choice of Pitt plus loans or no Pitt.

I met an admissions officer this summer. I believe he was the director but we got acquainted and he says that he’ll ensure that I get in (by my personality and stats- I dont want other applicants thinking this is unfair). I told him that I wasnt gonna attend a oos because its more money so he told me to take over the SAT’s for the full ride offer.

I’ve been going to SAT prep weekly and I’ve studying independently so I predict in the 2000’s. I’m a a 1830 no by the way.

This was just a projection. I know its not certain but he’s been working with my school and program trying to help me so I think I can trust him.

Why PITT over UNC-CH?
I visited Pitt and there was an instant personal connection. I want to find the cure for cancer and PITT has a cancer institute and a bunch of other places that’ll give me the practice I need.
Plus I’m a city girl and the south is not where I wanna be. However, if my SAT’s go up and I get the full ride then its UNC for me.

Okay, I see. Well, if Pitt isn’t workable for you financially, hopefully UNC will come through with the FA. Wherever you end up enrolling, best of luck to you.:)

Btw- Due to the very nature of cancer, there will never be a cure; only successively better ways to treat it. So ya, cancer is going to be around for a while.

If I cant find a cure then something that slows it down or reduces the symptoms will do. I just dont want cancer patients experiencing what they experience now.

This is going off topic and the question isnt even addressed.

W/ regards to the SAT’s a similar situation happened w/ UPitt. Long story short- they wouldnt release my decision b/c on my app I put that I would take the SAT’s over, however I didnt give them those scores. The assistant director- heather howe allowed me to email her the scores. I have a feature that allows me to take snapshots of my screen and she saw that it was my cb account making it valid.

I guess I’m being interrogated cuz you think I’m lieing but I have actually email evidence of this in case you wanna see.

Anyways I was told to email them or get counselor to fax. gets there faster.

What little information I can offer is that Pitt is more committed to meeting the full need of in-state students, so you will likely end up with at least a partial loans package. You will likely get more grant-based aid if your SAT bumps up, but there are many factors that conspire to create a financial aid package. I don’t think anyone on CC can accurately predict your FA package from either UNC or Pitt, but I personally imagine that Pitt’s will end up being better than that of UNC (just a hunch).

But if I were in your shoes I would just wait to see what happens. By April you will have the knowledge you need to make your decision, and hopefully that decision will be Pitt if that is where your heart is!

No one thinks you’re lying. It’s just a matter of deadlines. In your situation with Pitt, admissions is rolling so your SATs were submitted on time. With UNC, according to their website, the Jan test would be past their deadline.

I was asking questions because you posted that you had received a “full ride” to a school that had not released it’s decisions yet with projected SAT scores from a test you had not taken yet and was a month beyond the advertised date for submitting those scores. Good luck!

There’s a reason many high schools ask to see the letter of acceptance before they publish anything. Even recruited athletes are promised things that don’t end up happening. Most of the people on here, IB, have been around a while. Also, the number for tuition you quote is out-of-state, but you list yourself as being in PA.

Sounds like Duquesne is the perfect safety for you then. I would wait until Spring to hear from Pitt and UNC, and hopefully they will offer you as much as (if not more than) Duquesne.

I thought the Board of Governors Scholarships were for minority students only? If you are an URM that is an important detail that should be included when asking others to evaluate your chances at FA.

URM? I know the m is for minority. Whats the U&R for?

& I didnt know the BOG was solely for minorities. & yes I am a minority.

I’m really not interested in going to that school. Its California University of PA (my safety).
I like to be challenged academically and that school wouldnt offer that. Plus, its located in nowheres-ville. I want to be in the city- near internships and volunteer opportunities.

But I agree that Duquesne might be the best choice at this point.

I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that Pitt will give me a good FA package.
They said that the people who apply for aid early will be taken care of, and I already did FAFSA.
Plus the site mentioned that I can appeal to get more money- like if I really wanted to go there, and I do:(
