Since SLO no longer breaks out the MCA criteria, it is difficult to determine which courses are weighed more than others but historically extra Math and Science courses had the most “bonus” points in their Multi-Criteria Admission (MCA) process.

Thanks. We are going back nd forth here. Im not sure what to do and for some reason the counselors dont seem to know too much about Cal Poly specifics. I have alot on my plate and would rather take Environmental science but just wasn’t sure. Ill call admissions again tomorrow and see what they recommend. I appreciate all the help.

I really do not think that one course will have a huge impact on your chances at this point especially since SLO will not consider your Senior grades in their admission decision but they will note your HS course rigor for your Senior classes.

For what it is worth, I think this was the right decision. My CP student is a 2nd year ITP major (senior standing with units). Math classes will be more valuable then environmental science for the major. Both my students who applied to CP got into the business school (ITP and Bus Admin) with 3 years of science and 6 years of math.

In the past, CPSLO’s MCA formula valued extra semesters of math up to 10 total (versus the CSU minimum of 6 – be sure to include high school math taken while in middle school on the CSU application) more than extra semesters beyond the CSU minimum in other subjects. Not sure what it is now, since CPSLO does not disclose its current MCA formula.

Thank you for helping me. I am just on the normal math pathway which is why I wont be able to add any of my middle school math. We use the Integrated Math model so I am finishing IM3 this year, taking precalculus next year and will add AP stats as an elective to get that 5th year in.
