Eugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academy

Has anyone applied to this program? And if so, when do we get the results?

I applied, and I hope I get accepted verrry badly.
But it’s doubtful - my resume is non-impressive. I do not have my hopes up for it.

According to their Facebook group, we find out by Saturday!

Thanks for the info!

I remember seeing some statistics about this program on the website, and guess what…its acceptance rate is <5%. And only 15 high school students were accepted or so; the rest were college students. I’m really hoping my recommendations set me apart.

Yeah, not sure if you remember, but I"ll say it again anyway:
They said they were expecting 1200 applicants this year. . . yay.

My recommendation was terrible, honestly.
I don’t think my teacher is, uh, experienced in that.

I just want Saturday to come so I can stop worrying about it!
Where else did you apply?

I only applied to this and another @Stanford (SIMR). Should’ve applied to more, huh? I’m probably going to spend my summer at summer school and doing some private tutoring. How about you?

Got an email!! I’m advancing to the second round!

They said that there were 1000 applicants this year, and 150 were chosen to participate in the second round for 50 slots.

Congrats, futuremed! Did you apply to any other programs? I think I saw you on the UF-SSTP thread, any word from them yet?

Thanks squigglysquid! I applied to baylor, seap, and simr (all no’s). SSTP said they got my application, but I turned it in on like March 16th, so they’ll probably get to me later. Are you in cali?

Aw, thats too bad about the other programs, but you made it this far and this one is pretty awesome! Yeah I’m in SoCal, how about you?

I’ve gotten into Baylor HSSSRP, Garcia MSREC, and UF-SSTP so far. Even if I don’t get into this one, I don’t know how I’m going to decide! Do you have any input on these programs? Know anyone who’s been through em before?

Woohoo I got into the second round! Has anyone done this before?

congrats to those who made it in…i didn’t :(

^ same. ):

For those that were accepted, what do you think were your strengths?
Also, are you all seniors?

@squigglysquid
Yeah, I was pretty bummed. I’m from Florida actually! Congrats on your acceptances! I haven’t heard about Garcia before, but I’ve heard baylor is good (and it was REALLY selective). I’ve heard that SSTP is good, and the people who have gone there LOVE IT!

@Abrayo
I’m a junior. I have a bunch of leadership and previous lab experience. My scores aren’t that great (~2200 SAT), but I think I had a lot of passion in my essay…I hope that helps?!

@futuremed: Thanks! Do you know what you’re going to do for housing if you get into this one? Even though I live in Cali, I would have to make housing arrangements too because it’s way too long of a commute.

@Abrayo: I’m a junior, with a 34 ACT and 4.54 GPA. I have had previous research experience, prez of two clubs, community service, etc etc etc but I think my recs and essay were my main strengths.

Junior so cal

Haha I got past the first stage too  junior from socal, live about 30 minutes away.
Stats:
SAT 2200
PSAT 216
Research experience
GPA: 4.0 UW, I don’t go by weighted, but I think it’s around 4.8

Did any of the accepted send their emails yet?

Entering junior year next year. Let’s just say I live 22 hours away.
3.65 GPA Unweighted
PSAT: 184

I worked hard to set myself apart (what else could I do, clearly?).

Has anyone figured out living arrangements yet?

If I make the final cut, I’m probably going to just sublet an apartment or something and maybe find a roommate in the program as well. I’m not sure if you have to be over 18 to live alone though…

Sublet? Seems like it’s not really an area for college students looking to rent their apartment and go home for the summer. Rooming with another student seems pretty logical. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Goodluck to everyone in the running!
