Evansville audition?

Hey, has anyone (or your S/D) auditioned at Evansville yet? We are wondering how literally to take the 2-3 minute specification for the contemporary monologue. My S’s monologues are more like 1 minute, and he says he can pace either of them a bit more slowly, but that still wouldn’t be the full time. I know it’s important not to go over the time limits, and I don’t think it’s a big deal to be slightly under, but I’m just curious if anyone has direct experience with this particular school. Since they also ask for 20-30 lines from Shakespeare and a full verse from a Broadway musical, they clearly aren’t trying to rush them through. Any advice from somebody who actually knows about Evansville per se would be appreciated! :)

Oh gosh, my D auditioned for Evansville at a regional thespian event so she didn’t do the typical requirements, so I’m no help with that! But if it were my kiddo, I would have him do at least two minutes as they list that as the minimum. I would think that the more they can see of your son, the better.

They are such nice people, it really wouldn’t hurt to have your son call and ask! If you are not comfortable with asking, I would stick with the two-minute minimum.

My D is auditioning in Evansville this weekend (we are from Evansville, so easy commute for this audition). Anyhow, her monologues are closer to 1 1/2 minutes. So, I called. They told me that they are more concerned with going over, no under. Under is ok by them  Thought this muight help.

^^Yes, it does, thank you!! It’s what I thought, but…this audition is a bit different from the others my son has done (singing, Shakespeare, length of the components), so it helps a lot to hear that our instincts were ok about the monologue.

By the way, we’re driving from Virginia and were going to start the trip tonight, but thanks to the snow, we’re grounded till tomorrow. Gonna be a long 10 hours in the car! My S’s audition is in the afternoon, so if you and your daughter are there then, keep an eye out for an exhausted-looking mom-and-son! Good luck to your D and thanks again!

“Break a Leg!” to all you Evansville audition folks! We just found out that my D was academically accepted to Evansville. She has her interview during Thespian Conference in early February, so no trip to Evansville for us. (at least not now)

Yay for your D, ugadog–great news! We visited last summer and really were impressed by both program and school.
