Does anyone find it depressing how fleeting everything is? This is particularly true when you are college age, because we are constantly moving. Relationships and interactions with people are so short lived and nothing is lasting, what is the point of it all? It really depresses me that many friends will be made and then never seen again and no permanence exists in life. On the other hand, this is comforting, because I think humans crave novelty and change, but it still isn’t fun. And yes, I am aware that “everything in transit” is the jack’s mannequin album, and yes it makes me feel better.

well, it could depend on where you are in your life right now. Sometimes I get that “in transit” feeling in college, because I go to a large college in a major city and it’s all spread out, and it feels isolating sometimes. but I also like that feeling of change and excitement that comes with city life

But most of my important relationships in life (family and friends) aren’t fleeting, they’re long-term. I’ve lived in the same town for 19 years, and some of my friends have literally gone to school with me from pre-K to college. I love how when I’m back home, I know half the people I see at the store, I see familiar faces everywhere I go. the most important relationships are with the “permanent” people in your life, like your family and closest friends. in that sense, I still feel closer to my hs friends than my college friends, because we’ve known each other for like 15 years, our families are friends, and we just go way back.

also…it sounds like you’re a sad drunk…or your girlfriend broke up with you…sorry ![]()
