<p>I am considering applying to Exeter.
At last check, my IQ was in the 98%. As this was taken two years ago, my IQ should have gone up several points.
My extracurriculars are knitting, being an active member of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust community, and taking a Judaic Studies class.
My school does not have grades.
I am from a religious Jewish background.
What are my chances of getting into Exeter?

<p>a lot of stuff… SSAT score? And 98% IQ makes no sense, you can’t use IQ to justify anything. You’re still a kid so IQ isn’t very accurate, and 98% isn’t really a score. When I was 8, my IQ was 140 so let’s just use SSAT scores from now on.</p>
<p>Geography, legacy and whether or not you have a hook probably matter most.</p>
<p>Apparently, some High IQ Societies have selected criteria expressed as percentiles. Mensa is 98 percentile.</p>

<p>Yeah, I don’t know why you mentioned your IQ. That’s nothing that you can show to a school. What are you planning on sending in as your transcript if your school does not have grades?</p>

<p>A hook is something that essentially sets you apart from other applicants, a specific reason you are attractive to a school. Whether it is URM status, sports recruitment, whatever. Legacy status means you had a parent attend that school.</p>
<p>Not just an IQ test, but also a rohrshach test and additional academic and reasoning tests. I don’t have legacy status. I guess my hook is I bring a small amount of diversity and have legacy/donor family status at Yale.</p>

<li><p>Admission depends upon a black box calculation involving your SSAT scores (not IQ tests), grades, extracurricular activities, recommendations, essays, and whether or not you are a hooked candidate. </p></li>
<li><p>Being a hooked candidate hinges on whether you are a legacy at the prep school in question, a recruited athlete, a development admit (i.e., the child of parents who make a large donation), or an under represented minority (aka “URM”), e.g., an African American, a Native American, or a Hispanic. </p></li>
<li><p>Each school will review and compute these factors based upon what it needs to sculpt a well rounded class. In many instances, a well rounded class is comprised of individuals who stand out in one particular area, e.g.,musicians, actors, artists, athletes, etc.</p></li>

If you have any questions about the applications process or want any advice of any sort, just pm me. btw, nobody here will really be able to evaluate your chances of acceptance purely by IQ. IQ is not a guarantee of performance. The members of CC need something more solid such as grades in courses or as the others said, SSAT scores which you should be taking soon if you plan on applying. Most importantly, the thing the top boarding schools look for is your passion. What’s yours? You’ll need to find it and develop a strong commitment in it if not achievement before you apply to set you apart from all the other extraordinary applicants. If you don’t have anything special to offer the school, you’ll be pushed aside by the other stronger candidates who have the grades and more.
