My D. got a letter saying that she had not been accepted for the “new B.A. & Sc program” but nonetheless, “without charging additional application fees , we are considering you for our B.A. progrm and for our B.S. program You will recieve a letter or letters of acceptance, if you qualify according to …”

As far as she knew, she simply applied for admission, not for a BA+BS program, whatever that is. (uhm…what is it??).

So she still may be accepted for a BA or BS program…or both?? I thought BA or BS just depended on whatever major you eventually chose.

Clearly there is something here I don’t understand and don’t see an explanation on the School’s web site, nor a release schedule for admission dates for whatever they are or may still be considering her for.

okay, unlike american schools, the faculty of ‘arts and sciences’ is actually what it says. you get a BA and a BS upon graduation. from my understanding, you pick a major from the faculty of arts (which is social sciences, englishs, etc) and a major from the faculty of sciences (bio, chem, math) and then you get those degrees.

if you just want a BA you apply for the faculty of arts and if you want a BS you apply for the faculty of sciences.

since it’s different than american colleges, americans get confused a lot. i know, i was trying to apply for a polisci major and did arts and sciences and got accepted so i need to figure out what i’m going to do about that.

so the moral is, she should probably get in to one or both of them, as arts and sciences was really hard to get into this year, and can probably get her desired degree (BA or BS)
