Eye bag surgery and Thermage

Well, I’m planning my own happy 50 birthday gift.

Thinking about the surgery for my under eye bag and Thermage treatment for tighten the whole face skin.

Does anyone has experience about these? Or, do you know any good doctor in Hartford CT/Boston MA area?

No experience, but I’d love to give myself the under-bag surgery. I’ll be watching your experience with interest.

I do know a good doc in Fairfield County, but that’s probably beyond your geographic limits.

I also want to do the eye thing…but I have to choose between THAT and countertops!

Ah, yes. The great philosophical debate: countertops or eye lift. Both need to be “remodeled” but only can afford one.

I went with new countertops - but got formica and had $$ for braces :)

At least the eye bag lift is still yours once the house has been sold . . .

My step mother had a face lift when she was over 80. “Found” some money by selling a parcel of land she had given up on ever selling, so she went ahead and did it. She never regretted it.

My FIL had all his teeth capped in his 80s, so proud of having his own teeth and all of a sudden instead of worn down and looking like those of an old horse, he had these Hollywood choppers…it was somewhat amusing and very expensive, but he seems thrilled and it did save some of them from becoming a problem.

I guess it is never too late

Happy 50th!

Thermage sounds great to me as I’m not into cutting. But I’ve read it’s extremely painful.

I’m a huge believer in fillers like Juvaderm. 10 minutes, a few needle pricks and you look so much fresher, subtly younger and so well rested.

Please come back to report if you do it!

Check out this website, its extremely informative. Provides user ratings over fairly large samples, you can read commentary by those who have had any kind of treatment, and also before and after pictures: [Reviews of Cosmetic Treatments, Surgery, Doctors - RealSelf](http://www.realself.com/)

Star bright - thanks, I did checked this website, it’s very helpful.

Went to a plastic surgeon today in Boston area, for eye bag and upper eye lid lift, it costs almost $5,000. It’s much more expensive than the one I saw in NYC last month. Both are good doc and very experienced (one from Harvard, one from Cornell). I know it’s not fair to compare only based on price, but it’s a lot ot money.

Well, I will keeping on searching…

Ps: Countertop? What countertop?

Try this doctor:

[Dr. Jane Olson,Facial Plastic Surgeon, Norwalk, Baton Rouge, Westport, Darien, Fairfield - Blepharoplasty, Botox, Juvederm, Sculptra](http://www.doctorjaneolson.com/)

I visited her for a medical problem and was very impressed.

Sometimes your insurance company will pay for an upper eye lift if your eye lids are drooping to the point of interfering with your vision. You would have to get an eye doctor to certify it but I’ve known several people (men and women) who have had it done and the insurance paid for it. The drooping eyelid thing runs in my family, so I’m waiting… :)

I’ve heard mixed reviews on Thermage. As starbright mentioned realself dot com is a great website to read people’s comments on different procedures. It will make you think twice about Botox.

Veryhappy - thanks for the info. I will call tomorrow to have an appt. Do you know if they charge for first consultant appt?

I don’t know. You can ask when you make the call.

I went to see three doctors last week and two consultant meetings for Thermage treatments. I decided not to have the eye bag surgery now but will try Thermage.

It’s a difficult decision. Surgery is expensive and needs longer downtime, another reason, I’m worry about the scar.

My appointment for Thermage is early Feb. Good luck to me.

ps: do people tip the nurse for this kind of treatment?

As a nurse, I was always offended when I was offered at tip (even though I could have used the $$). I felt that took away from considering a nurse as a professional, and putting her more in the place of “the help”.
I had an upper eye lift 10 years ago and I have loved it. I had very droopy lids and always felt like I looked tired. The healing time was very quick, it was not painful at all, and the scars are almost invisible (very fine white line in eye crease - I don’t even where eye shadow).

Rummandting - agree with you about tip and thank form share your experience of eye lid surgery.

Mehappykid - let us know ALL the details:

$$$

How much did it hurt

Did it work

Would you recommend

Worknprogress - sure!

Me too, I would love to hear. I have terrible under eye bags now. And if I retain any fluid at all they are HUGE. And while I have almost a wrinkle-free face, it is droopy. I am 55, my skin makes me look younger in some ways but the drooping and bags instantly take away from that.

I have considered both the eye surgery and Thermage,. Not going to have a face lift.

Please share :).

If I go I will share too.

Yes, please share. I’m curious about what you think about Thermage.

My skin isn’t very wrinkly but I, too, have a little drooping - on my lower face around my mouth. I hate it! I’ve been around a lot of people (IRL) who have had face lifts and I’m pretty sure it’s not something I will do. At first, they look good but after a while, the face starts to look a little distorted and it’s very obvious that the person has had a face lift. Part of the issue is the bones continue to recede, so when you start to pull on the skin as hard as it is necessary for a full face lift, it begins to look a little weird especially around the middle part of the face.

I would, however, do an eye lift and maybe a lower face lift and neck. Also, I’ve heard, do the eye lift but not a brow lift because that’s what gives you that ‘surprised look’.

I keep hoping they will improve the techniques by the time I need one.
