Eyelash Extensions! Who has tried 'em? :)

Earlier this month I was in California for a family wedding. On the first day, my sister and I did our annual mani-pedi - waxing - what have you - at her fave spa. And, voila, they were doing eyelash extensions!! Sign me up! (where have my eyelashes gone over the years!)

Oh my! How awesome! It made my whole trip so much easier. No mascara to put on, no smearing, no flaking, and no raccoon eyes! And how wonderful it was to be at a beautiful (teary) wedding and not have to worry about mascara running! And, how wonderful it was to wake up and have fab lashes!!

They stayed on for about 2-3 weeks. They do NOT look like fake eyelashes. They truly look real.

God no.
I have been tempted to cut mine because they are so long that I can’t wear eyemake up & glasses at the same time.
How are they fastened in? ( are they synthetic?)
I have had my lashes dyed however. That was not a fun process, but it was fun to look like I had mascara on without having to actually do it.

I tried them and loved them - no need for eye makeup - they were fabulous and yet they weren’t over the top. Unfortunately after about 6 mos I started to develop an allergic reaction to the glue so I stopped. I would like to start up again but just haven’t made the time to find a new place and get a trial set to ensure no reaction. So now I just get them dyed, but that really doesn’t do much of anything.

This is pretty irrelevant (still about eyelashes!) but I’ve worn purple mascara before and it’s pretty great.
In most settings you can’t tell that it’s purple, although it looks pretty great when the light catches it.
I’d love to try navy or dark green mascara haha.

Nope, but my sister has used Latisse with amazing results. I’m tempted to try it. The eyelash extension thing is wayyyyyyy too high maintenance for me.

The fun thing about pale thick eyelashes is that when I use green or violet mascara, you can really tell!
However, I dont do it very much cause it requires a certain look to pull it off.
Id rather just be able to find light brown mascara. Everything is black and it looks too harsh.

Latisse worked really well for me. I decided to use it rather than do eyelash extensions–it was too trouble much for me to keep it up.

Did your eyelids itch or did your eyes have a discharge? If they used a formaldehyde based formula, that can make you have those reactions. I get itchy with certain nail adhesives.

There are different glues available. If you try again, ask around for a non-formaldehyde based adhesive.

How much do these extensions cost?

My hairdresser just started using these. She loves them. She had them on when I was last in the salon and they looked good!

^^
They do look very natural. Since they are applied individually, there is no “line” and they (thankfully) do NOT look like fake eyelashes.

Oh, god! Not another beauty product enriched with formaldehyde! Rolls eyes.

Did extensions twice (special events involved). Would not do again. Spendy, for me. Had a Groupon both times and still $90 (plus tip). Takes about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. You cannot shower for at least 24 hours after. Special cleaners and cue tippy type things to clean them. Have to be very careful not to rub your eyes. SOME of them last 3 weeks. But towards the end, looks a bit strange as some have fallen off and some have not. Since they are individually glued to your existing eyelashes,
somewhat of a problem if you’re missing some of your own!

That being said, the first week, they did look fabuolous!

Probably not, I have problem sitting at the hair/nail saloon too long. Who has the patience?

^^
I fell asleep during the procedure. I was on my back on something like a doctor’s exam table…but comfy. There was relaxing music playing. Your eyes are closed anyway, so why not fall asleep.

I fell asleep during the procedures too.

To me, personally, it’s higher maintenance to apply Latisse every night versus go every couple of weeks (and nap!). Plus, I’m concerned about the potential eye color change with Latisse. I really like the color of my eyes (they are green with hints of blue and reflect what I wear) and even a small possibility of permanent change is unacceptable to me.

M2CK - my eyes would be fine for a day or two, then I’d get huge bags under them and they’d be red and itchy. No discharge. Then it would fade away. This only happened after about 6 mos, but the place I went to swore they hadn’t changed the glue. I should look for another place and do a trial run if their glue, but I just haven’t yet made the time to do so. I really did love the look.

The nail salon does it but I’ve been a little skeptical. I wouldn’t try Latisse because they say it permanently changes the color of your eyes! I have very light blue eyes.

Do you have to be careful to not ever rub your eyes?

Any of you remember I Dream of Jeannie? I used to love Jeannie’s eyelashes when I was little. Now I see them as an adult they’re obviously fake. :)

I had the lash extensions for a bit. The best part was not having to use mascara. The bad part was by the third time the base of my lashes was thicker from the glue build up and I needed touch-ups more often. They began to look unnatural so I stopped after three or four visits. They were great for summer and once I am done paying college tuitions I may try them again.

What does Latisse do the color of brown eyes? I wouldn’t mind a change. :)

I don’t think of Latisse as higher maintenance. It takes all of 2 minutes to apply–it’s like a liquid eyeliner. I put it on at night after I wash my face. I’d much rather do that every night then have to get myself to the salon every three weeks. Doctor told me that Latisse can cause increased brown pigmentation. Since I have brown eyes that wasn’t a concern. My eyes haven’t changed colors.
