Compared to where you’ll actually attend college, junior year did you think where you’d be going was totally different?

Thought I’d stay in-state and go to a local university and continue studying with my current piano teacher as a music major there; senior year, changed my mind and decided to go out-of-state, so a big change I guess. Completely wrong junior year about that.

Going into high school (a school for the arts) I wanted to pursue musical theatre at NYU, but I knew nothing about what that would require. Soon I realized I had different strengths and priorities, and I wanted to go somewhere where I could have a blast partying and having the traditional “college experience,” and UW-Madison was the cheapest, best, most fun choice.

Nope. My Junior year, I had planned on going across the country and being “different”. When it came time for me to actually decide where to go, however, I stayed in-state.

Junior year, I rediscovered Vassar and fell hard for it. I was waitlisted, which for me was a good thing because after applications, I began to grow slightly disillusioned with it and realized that Smith was a much better fit for me.

Early in my junior year, I thought I’d probably be going out to the east coast, but I ended up finding a college I loved closer to home, which is were I will be attending.

When I was a junior, I thought I would be living in Japan and majoring in psychology.

Now that I’m a sophomore (at a different college from freshman year, and a separate one from where I’ll be transferring), I realize that I would have gotten myself into a crazy amount of debt, and not been able to change my major (which I’ve done roughly four times).

I’m glad I took the time to pause, look at all my options, and choose going to community college first.

I live in New England and I was convinced that I would go to UCLA or some other California school. And then I was convinced I would go to NYU because I’ve liked New York when I’ve visited. Basically for almost all of my high school career (including most of senior year) I was convinced I would go to college out of state, but that ended up not being the case.

I didn’t even consider my state school until October of senior year.

I guess you could say that I stuck my nose up to it. I really shouldn’t have, because I am so, so, so excited now to be going there and ended up not even applying to anywhere else.

I thought I would be going to a school that had an enclosed campus/was suburban or in a small town, was without Greek life, and had a great sports team. Lo and behold, I’m going to a school in the center of a city, with a growing Greek life, and without prominent sports teams to speak of. Things change.

As cliche as it sounds, everyone ends up where they need to be.

I don’t know. I never really expected where I’d be because I didn’t want to get my hopes up for a school and then get rejected. I guess I thought I’d be at a safety school. Never would have ever believed I got into Swarthmore.

I’ve wanted to go to Vassar since spring of junior year. After I got into Pomona, UChicago, GWU and Bowdoin, I fell in love with them and started to envision myself at any of them, particularly Pomona as I did like the whole awesome-orientation-trips-puppies-during-exam-week concepts and the beautiful campus. But alas, most of them expected me to be full pay and Vassar was super generous considering my fam is considered upper-ish middle class.

Guess who’s beyond excited about going to Vassar? :-)

Junior year I was dead set on going to Carnegie Mellon. Then, senior year, I realized that I could go to my in-state flagship for four years for the same price of one year of one year of cmu. So money was the initial deciding factor for me, but I found out how many opportunities I really do have at wvu and fell in love with the school. West Virginia University, class if 2015 :)

Yes and no.
I always knew I wanted to leave California. Not because California’s bad, but because I really wanted to do something new.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t afford to go to any of the schools that I had planned on applying to. BU, NYU, George Washington University, etc. I figured I’d have to give up my east coast dreams. I applied to Marist College, a college I’d learned about at a college fair when I was a sophomore.
I’m off to study abroad for my first year of college in Italy in a little more than a month. So, yeah. A little different from what I thought I was going to do.
