FALL 2014 Guaranteed/ Conditional Transfers

Ard,

Will CALS accept your AP credit? I know ILR accepts AP scores for a few requirements, and made it clear in the initial GT offer

ard1995, CALS does not accept AP Bio credit for bio majors (or any major in CALS that I know of). You need to email them, BUT from my experience with them, they will provide you with different options like taking upper div or chem/physics. I have a feeling that they really don’t strictly enforce their requirements.

Thank you both for your responses. FindmeFazo, I did email CALS, and they told me that if I don’t meet the requirements I cannot use the GT offer. They suggested either applying as a junior (I would rather get out of my current school quicker) or foregoing the GT offer and applying as a regular transfer, in which case they would consider that I was given a GT offer. I would hope that they don’t strictly enforce their requirements, so I’m trying to see if anyone has enrolled in Cornell as a GT without fulfilling all the requirements.

Hmm I’m still IN the enrollment process, but I was allowed alternatives for my intro bio classes. They were even okay with upper div in my case. Maybe they’re more strict with Bio Sci majors? I’m biology and society.
But wow, that really isn’t fair of them to tell you that after you’ve been going to this school for almost a semester. They never said in their admissions page that you had to go to certain schools. Also, I recently started talking to someone else who receive the TO for CALS and he wasn’t required to do certain things while I was.
you should take non-intro bio classes as close to the intro-bio classes in Cornell as possible and apply as a regular transfer at least. I think there was one case on here where a student got a B- and/or didn’t meet the minimum GPA and had to apply as a regular transfer but got in anyway. I mean, if you’re doing more difficult coursework, there’s no reason for them to turn you away.

I’m quite frustrated with how they’re handling transfers myself. But that’s a story for never.

Fight for yourself!!

Ard,

Sorry for the late thought, but I just had a similar issue. I didn’t have AP credit for Macroeconomics, but I took it at the local community college and transferred the credit to my current college just in case I decided I wanted to stay and not use the GT. Cornell will not accept the credit, so I have to retake it in the Spring. I had to fight with the registrar’s office, but it was clear it was ultimately my decision to to drop the credit in order to register for the class. Basically, I do not think (but I could be wrong) your school can force you to accept credit for it. I think if you talk to the registrar they can drop the credit for you so you can register.

Goodluck!

Hi guys!

I’m hoping to transfer into Human Ecology and one of my requirements is the two composition courses. Cornell has been slow in getting back to me to approve my spring semester english course and rejected the original course I was going to take mid registration week of my current college and I was wondering if anyone knew how strict they were about taking english composition freshmen year? I know for my major they require two semesters of it freshmen year but would I be able to take a freshmen writing seminar my soph year when I start at Cornell?

Best of luck on finals everyone!

S1 was a sophomore transfer and was not able to take Freshman writing classes. There are restricted to freshman students only.

maxsdad
Did your S transfer in with the required Freshmen writing classes credit(s) or did they accept him despite that? I’m not sure if Cornell will approve the choices I have and I’m wondering if they will still let me transfer.

Did any GT get email/transfer application from CALS? My D did not hear anything from them yet.

I haven’t heard from them either…they said the application would be sent in mid-December, so should I start to be worried? :P

You should contact them. My got Application form on 18th Dec.

Yeah, I contacted them but their admissions office was already on break. I’ll call them when they reopen on the 2nd. The application is due on Feb. 1 so I’ll still have enough time to fill it out even though they forgot about me :stuck_out_tongue: Also, I’m an AEM major, by the way! Look forward to seeing you all there next year, hopefully.

Good Luck Invcus!

My D is the candidate. She started this thread initially, but busy with other things. I checks occasionally and answer

Did anybody complete and submit the transfer app? My D did. But she didn’t hear from Cornell yet.

Goodluck,

I did send mine in, along with my high school and college transcripts. However I didn’t send in the midyear report yet, so my application isn’t complete. What’s your Ds status with the midyear? My semester starts late (end of January) so I won’t be able to get midyear grades from my professors till around mid-March. I’m nervous that Cornell might need it before that

ard1995,

Same my D sem starts late Jan and she needs to send her midterm report in mid-march . My D was saying that she will get an ID, so that she can login and track that they received and what are pending etc. She sent her college/high school transcripts. I think mid march is ok, since Cornell gives results on last Thursday of march.
