Hello everyone! I Good luck!

This coming week perhaps?

@Shap95 Wow, congrats! Did you sign in with your applicant ID?

@Jtvheroxql yes I did! And thank you! I’m trying not to get too excited yet. Waiting for an acceptance email/letter.

Congrats to everyone who met the requirements!
I applied to Cornell this year and received a transfer option for Fall of 2015.
I was wondering how difficult it was to maintain the required GPA. I chose Biological Sciences so it sucks that I have to maintain a 3.5 GPA.

Congrats to you too @bonbon2395! I didn’t find it difficult at all the maintain the GPA (my first semester I took Bio, chem, calc, and sociology - I AP-ed out of one english class) and I was able to have a GPA above a 3.5

@goodluck13: bulldogs3 has a major in CALS : biological engineering

@goodluck13 Thanks!
What schools did you guys attend for freshmen year?

@bonbon2395 the GPA requirement may seem daunting, but it is definitely a great motivator to really push yourself in school and not get distracted by social events. If Cornell gives you a GT, they know you are capable of achieving it. I am currently attending a small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania.

Hi everyone,
I am joining the conversation. I received the 2014 Fall Transfer Option for CALS for a major in Biological Sciences. I currently attend Stony Brook University. As of today, my portal also states that my application materials have been sent for review. Really hoping to find out soon!!!

@shap95 Thanks! I’m just worried because a lot of people have been telling me that freshmen year is the hardest.

@concerto95 Did you find it difficult to maintain the 3.5GPA minimum? I’m also a Biological Sciences major and I’m probably going to attend Stony Brook as well for freshmen year.

@shap95, Its interesting your choosing Stony Brook also. For me, the problem was not maintaining the GPA. As long as you work hard, you can easily get A’s. Chemistry is really the only difficult class ive had, but you just have to read the text, and do a lot of practice questions. The problem I have had through this process is fulfilling all the requirements for this major. Stony Brook dosn’t exactly make it easy in that sense. There is always a demand for certain classes such as the chemistry labs and writing classes that it was hard for me to initially sign up for them. Advisors are not helpful! They told me that I could not sign up for chem lab because it was full. I did not listen to them, got on a waitlist, and got into the class week before the fall semester started. If you do not get into the first chem lab or writing class in the fall, they are available over the winter session. I had to take a writing class then. Another problem is that biology lectures and labs are separate classes, not together, and they make it impossible to take the labs as a freshman. I also had to fight to get into the first bio lecture class . Advisors said it was to hard to take as a freshman (it really isn’t). I still couldn’t take the labs though, so in the end, I had fulfill all the bio requirements at SUNY Farmingdale.

Despite the issues I had, Stony Brook is still a great choice and am enjoying my first year here. There are many opportunities here if you decided not to transfer. But still don’t let these issues deter you from transferring. My recommendation is to take the bio classes and labs at another school or a community school, because they are together unlike at Stony Brook. If you cant commute between schools, try to take something this summer. If you choose Stony Brook, make sure you pay deposit as quick as you can so you get early orientation date, so you can register for classes earlier then most. My orientation was like july 16th, and by that time writing classes were already full and labs were hard to get into. If not, you may have to make some calls, but you can probably get all the other requirements.

Sorry if this long, but I hope it helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

@bonbon2395 ^I am assuming the above poster meant to tag you and not me

@shap95 haha thanks

@concerto95 Thanks! That was super helpful.
