Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

@devinus Dang, I’m sorry! How were the essay you wrote? I know some colleges put a lot of emphasis on the essay, not sure if CNS is one of them. That’s absolutely ridiculous though. I don’t think your stats could haven gotten much better… What are your other options?

@devinus‌ what school are your credits from? Maybe a few of them didn’t transfer over causing your gpa to go lower? thats just an idea, I’m trying to understanding why they wouldn’t admit you with that high of a GPA

@devinus I’m so sorry! :frowning: I don’t understand what happened though your gpa is amazing! :/

@123456B My essays were reviewed by a former English professor and several friends. I thought they were really good.

@txgirl9457 My credits are from ACC. I followed the guide for transfer students, so I knew all my credits would transfer.

I have no idea how I didn’t even get into UGS. I have no other options because I have an actual career here in Austin. It’s just frustrating not knowing what I have to fix before I apply again. It just seems ridiculous that they would deny somebody who’s already proven they can handle college and already has a very successful career in the field.

@devinus‌ how much math have you completed? I think CNS rejects you if you don’t have up to calc 2 completed. But i don’t believe that’s the case for UGS…

^ That’s true, if you do not have the math CNS won’t accept you. And I’ve also heard people can be rejected from UGS because it fills up quick with freshmen. When you apply again make sure to do second choice COLA maybe?

that is making me nervous now because I applied to cola psychology(the most competitive in cola) and ugs and will probably have around a 3.7… don’t have my 30 hours yet

devinus, i’m really sorry to hear about that. The only thing I can think of for why you might not have been accepted to the University in general would be the fact that UGS was your second choice; Like lovechickfila said, I’ve UGS fills up really quickly with primarily freshmen. You’d probably be admitted to at least COLA next go round.

@devinus. UT only allows a student to be in UGS for four semesters. You may have too many credits for UGS. That may be why you were declined with such a great GPA. Maybe you can appeal and ask to be considered for COLA undecided (?) Wouldn’t hurt to ask.

@txgirl9457 yeah it has to be because you don’t have 30 hours because I got into the psych program with a 3.5 so don’t lose faith just yet!!!

Has anyone else been rejected from CNS yet?

Also, someone told me that admissions sees students apps on an alphabetized basis (of last name), which I’m not sure is true :|

@Paguy8‌ psychology BS or BA? not sure if one is easier than the other

I’m going for B.A, the difference is B.S is more science based so you have to take science and B.A you have to take a language. So it depends on the person which is easier.

I just got rejected from CNS this morning, and accepted into UGS.
I applied as a CS major and here are my stats:
School: UT Dallas
31 hours completed and will have 45 by the end of this semester.
GPA: 4.0
2 decent essays but I’m not sure if that was a main factor.
I had all right extra curricular activities and no letters of recommendation
I would absolutely love to attend UT but if I am not given the opportunity to go into my choice of major I really don’t see the point in attending and having to go through the whole process of internal transfer.

I don’t really know what happened, but I feel like I may have been rejected because I am still in the beginnings of my CS degree… but honestly that is the reason I wanted to go to UT… wow…

@danichus oh wow sorry to hear that… since when did CNS become so competitive? At least you got accepted into UGS which some people didn’t

Might have been the no letters of recommendation. Almost everyone seems to submit at least two, so not submitting any at might have hurt a lot.

No recs isn’t that big of a deal with 4.0 GPA and plenty EC’s, he probably didn’t have all calculus courses completed or blew one of his essays

They said they had “Ok” ECs. Letters are a way to show the committee another view of yourself. A good gpa is important, but a university like UT isn’t going to want a person that’s just smart: they want well rounded people. Not submitting any letters was a big mistake IMO.

@latimeria true but having all calc courses completed is much better than having no recs at all (like with @devinus case)

Haha, I feel that it’s because my lack of CS background for the most part, I’d be transferring as a sophomore so that’s why I didn’t have any rec letters but on the other hand that could have hurt me, but in all honesty it’s probably my CS background that got me.
I finished calc 1 and will be completing calc 2 this semester.
Does anyone know anything about internal transfers? I’m still a freshman so maybe a semester in UGS wouldn’t be so bad, but if the process is too much of a risk I may just decline my admission
