Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

Does anyone know how long it takes for an appeal to be accepted or denied? If it does get accepted, I’m assuming my application will go back under review?

(@DanielKim3: I had to appeal earlier this year due to a transcript flub by my school, but it took more than a month. I’m not sure how long it would take this far into admissions, but I imagine it would have to be a much faster process than it was for me. And when my appeal was accepted, my application opened again and went into review a week after my final transcript was received, but again I’m not sure if it’s the same now in June.
I guess basically, since my appeal was an Incomplete/Late-Transcript Appeal, I don’t know if it works the same, sorry for not being able to answer completely.)

@‌hgr531 What school/major did you apply for? GPA?? And have you gotten admitted yet?

@rangers32 That’s good to know, hopefully it’ll all be worked out before the first orientation. Probably Jester, do you by any chance know where/what "Shared Space"is? <a href=“UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining”>UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining;

@DanielKim3‌ I’m trying to get into Nursing or COLA Psychology, I have a 3.844, and I haven’t heard back yet-- it looks like admissions decisions are going to take a while, maybe ~2 weeks. But here’s hoping!

You have nothing to lose. Check the official ut appeals page lots of appeals accepted

Everybody with appeal questions please post in the official thread it will make answering questions easier
@hgr531‌
@danielkim‌
Since housing deadlines and orientation is coming up I imagine fairly quickly. After my first appeal was rejected my second appeal was successful and I received the answer 2 days after I sent it in. Also there is no email sent or any confirmation word. So you have to check everyday to see what your decision is

I need the official UT Appeal page

@Golfing7861 I am gonna try and get into an honors dorm because I think dorms like san jacinto and duren will fill up/have already filled up. I wish I knew more about how non honors students getting into an honors dorm works but I’m not too sure. Shared space is just having a roommate, if you look at the single space costs, they go up quite a bit since it’s just one person.

@rangers32 What are the benefits to honors dorms besides being among people who generally focus on academics more? Thanks for the info!

@Golfing7861‌ about Shared Space. Here is what I know from going to orientation last 2 days ago.
It’s a 2 person room with either a private bathroom or community bathroom.
Jester East is around $10k or so. Jester West is around $9k. Duren and San Jac(which looks SOoOO much nicer than Jester) is around $11k. and single bedroom is around $11k-$15k. At least thats what the counselor said for this 2014-2015.

as for the benefits for being at the honors. It is soo not as crowded as the other popular residence halls which means you can have a more quiet time doing your own thing around that residence hall.

the downside though to picking those not so popular residence halls (including private bathroom rooms, single space rooms) its gonna be a little challenging meeting or getting to know other people. Although they do a lot of activities to get the people around the residence halls to hang out. It’s not gonna be as open as say going to shared space with community bathrooms. like Jester I mean you will instantly have a friend just by walking at Jester halls(lots of people there and considering its summer!).

Just correct me if I’m wrong because thats what I got from touring the campus this week.

Transcript recieved 5/22. Still incomplete??? What should i do?

@jjyoon36‌ : They got my transcript on the 22nd too, and it took longer than a lot of people I saw, but that’s really long! When I called them they said transcripts would be processed within ten business days, which I think have already passed since the 22nd. I don’t really know how to help, but I think you should definitely call and ask about it. If it’s not processed by tomorrow, something went wrong with their process (or they’re just really backed-up with other stuff, I guess, but it should still be done right about now.)

Anyone here who has applied with a 3.8-3.9 GPA for McCombs? Have you received a reply? Waiting for a reply is driving me crazy. Applied to McCombs School of Business…they received my final transcript on the 21st of May, but it still says, “Your application is in review.” It’s been that way for months. I know it is a VERY competitive school, and they take the best. Will someone please tell me if there might be a chance for me to get in? I’m trying so hard to be patient, but I’m also losing hope…

I’m an in-state community college student with a 3.86 GPA. Out of 18 courses I’ve taken…I’ve only made 2 B’s. Made A’s in all the business indicator courses (Calc1, Calc2, Macro & Micro).
Wrote 2 good/okay essays.
Got a bunch of leadership positions from high school (studied abroad) and awards for studies.
Member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at college

So, the stress is too much for me.

I have made a pact with myself not to check My Status again until next Friday. At this point, it is what it is and driving myself crazy checking is accomplishing nothing except to drive myself crazy.

I am first choice Communications (RTF) and second choice COLA undeclared applicant. I will update here when there is news, and good luck to everyone.

@Golfing7861 what the previous poster said was dead on about the dorms. I went ahead and emailed housing to see whether I should start looking for places off campus (which I will) and this is what they replied with:

"We will begin offering contracts to transfer students later this month, and in application date order. We cannot guarantee housing; however, in past years we were successful in reaching students who applied when you did. Although, we may not reach your application date until later this summer, and you may want to decide how long you feel comfortable waiting on a contract.

In order to make more space on campus, once our permanent rooms on campus are filled, we will begin to offer supplemental contracts. If you are offered a supplemental contract, it is a guaranteed space on campus, and you are assigned to a temporary room until a permanent room is available."

Hate to be a pain, but I remember someone mentioning earlier on in this thread that COLA would make all its decisions by June 1st. Anyone know if that’s true? I called undergraduate admissions and COLA’s student office, but just kept getting redirected over and over without anyone confirming it.
It’s making me super anxious 'cause my application didn’t even go into review until May 30th, more than a week after my transcript got there.

I called admissions today, and they said that it was normal to have decisions til late June. There is no deadline for any college that states that all decisions have to be made by June 1st. @hgr531

@jjyoon36‌ : Thanks a ton!

@hgr531‌ the admission counselor around my place from UT said that all decisions will be sent out on June 16th. maybe you just misread it??
