( @Keired Yeah, I heard that too, but when I called they weren’t sure if COLA had a different deadline from the whole school or not. On page 96, someone mentioned a COLA June 1st decision deadline, or it seemed that way to me anyway, and it just kind of freaked me out, sorry for the trouble haha. )

@hgr531 haha its okay! No matter when decision will come out I’m sure you’ll get in! UT is an amazing school! I fell inlove when I visited! I’m also waiting for decisions and decided not to check it until June 16th coz I figured this constant checking is really bad when I get rejected! lol

:((

Any 4.0’s not admitted to engineering? Just got off the phone with a counselor who basically said “This was the hardest year yet and they aren’t accepting any engineers (at least PE and ME) with less than a 4.0”

She also said that admission is not based on purely GPA anymore.

@shanesmith747, check page 105. I got accepted yesterday to PGE. Stats are on 105.

@keired Thank you very much for the info. A couple quick questions, what’s the difference between Jester East/West? Do you have any idea if the private bathroom rooms are limited/fill up quickly?

@rangers32 Wow a temporary room does not sound fun, having to move out all your stuff midway through the semester would suck. For off campus spots are you looking at other dorms or apartments? I guess I should start looking into other options as well. I appreciate the help, thanks.

I’m pretty sure the June 16th deadline is accurate for decisions. I was notified last year June 12, and that was considered an earlier admission to Communication because my GPA was higher.

@Golfing7861 Jester East is a little more expensive because it has been recently updated/renovated. and Jester West is only still in the process of being updated/renovated they do renovations during the summers from top to bottom floors. So Jester west is still a long years to go! And I don’t have any ideas about the private baths. Although I know that they probably don’t have any more rooms available in Jester because my sister(freshman admitted for fall 2014) did not even had the choice to choose Jester. She was only offered San Jac. she just did it 2 weeks ago.

PS: For the nursing students who applied to transfer they only admitted 5 transfers for fall 2014.

I am not applying this year but plan on applying next year. I currently attend Southern Illinois University. My GPA right now is a 3.375, which I know is low for UT. I plan on raising it up to a 3.63 by the time I apply to transfer next year. I am an English major and would apply to COLA. Would a 3.63 GPA along with good letters of recommendation and solid essays be enough to be admitted. Can anyone with experience transferring in to COLA please give me some feedback. My first choice would be an English major.

So I see people with 3.9~3.99 are getting rejected from Cockrell… I didn’t know it was this much competitive. My second choice major is Economics though. Is Economics also competitive as engineering?
Oh and one more question, do they also post decisions during the weekends? thanks

@Golfing7861 Yeah you are right but at least for me, I think living on campus is the best thing for me in my first year. I have been looking at both right now, but off campus dorms seem a bit underwhelming in the sense that the reviews pretty much suck. I have also been looking around on facebook groups to see if anyone is looking for a roommate. But if I wait too long and I am not offered a contract, any place will do as long as I have a place to sleep lol.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get into the college of communications? All of these rejections from people with such high gpa’s and good credentials is freaking me out.

I’m in a similar situation as Paul Wall (applying to COLA for psychology) so I’d love to know a COMFORTABLE GPA range that will essentially guarantee admission. From what I’ve read, 3.5 gets anyone into COLA but knowing the absurdity of UT’s admissions standards due to the immense volume of applicants, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is no longer true. Also, has anyone ever been rejected with a borderline GPA (3.5) because they went to a community college? I was a music major at a small private Christian school in Nashville so unfortunately I don’t have any psychology credits yet I do have many gen eds and I was in an honors program there. Now I’m back home in Houston and plan on going to a local CC for a semester to get my GPA up to about a 3.55. I will have 45 hrs. Thoughts?

@pianoman911 I am going to UT next year as a psych major and I got in with a 3.51 but I went to a Texas CC so the only thing that I could really say is get you GPA as high as you can. You will still be considered out of state because you haven’t lived in texas for a year. I went through the process of becoming a texas resident a year ago. So until you can become a resident your GPA needs to be as high as it possibly can because UT only takes very very few out of state transfers and for the psych requirements all you need done is general psych. Most psych stuff you take else where doesn’t really transfer like the psych stats and developmental they will only count as elective credits, other than that you need 2 consecutive natural sciences and language and followed by another natural science and a math other than college algebra. You will need writing 1301 and 1302. Also your history and gov and that all the GE’s needed. Hope that helps also COLA looks heavily at your essays so make sure they are fantastic. Hope I helped you out!

I’ve got a 3.8, applying to COE and still in review… This is driving me crazy.

Does anyone know the average GPA to get into COLA Economics? From previous threads, I saw people get in with a 3.42 , I just got recently denied with a 3.42 but I’m appealing the decision right now because my most recent transcript brought my GPA up to a 3.50 … Anyone have any insight on my current situation?

@suewait I am in College of Communication right now and it is pretty competitive. You need above a 3.6 to really have a shot, as all of my friends I transferred with that were accepted had above that. RTF is the most competitive, then Public Relations/Advertising, Journalism, then Comm Disorders. Moody really looks at essay quality, letters of rec, and resume experience because there are really no pre req’s for Communication like CNS or McCombs.

@Putnan Economics is a very popular major within Liberal Arts. It is also competitive because a lot of McCombs rejects put that as their second major, in which they more than not receive. A great strong GPA for COLA Economics I would say is a 3.7 with great essays, and great letters of rec. I do not believe it is more competitive than Engineering, however. You have a better shot with that. Finally, yes decisions have been known to roll out on the weekends in the past.

@DanielKim3 A 3.5 is still an excellent GPA. Some of it can be how your resume and essays compared to other applicants, which resulted in your rejection. Be sure to demonstrate your upward trend in GPA and really describe to them your passion/reasons for Economics.

@DeeGeeErbear Is a 3.6 GPA competitive for COLA. I would apply as an English major. I am out of state. Would solid essays and letters of recommendation be enough along with a 3.6?

If anyone knows, how hard are internal transfers at UT? I got accepted into UGS and had 3.72 GPA. I’ll be applying to Cockrell for ME.

@PaulWall for an out of state student, they usually accept 4.0s and like 3.9s. Your GPA is a bit low for the out of state GPA based on past threads. If you were in state, I would rate it as more competitive.

@damnlol1 Internal transferring should be listed on the website. For communication it is tough, so I imagine Engineering is even tougher. You need one semester spent at UT, minimum 2.5 GPA, essays written, and letters of rec. (similar to this admission process into the university.) You can also register for into courses into the major and are expected to make A’s in them. That is what you do for Communication, but I would double check on the requirements for Cockrell.
