Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

Hey guys! Was anyone else’s SIR fee waived? I’m a uc-uc transfer and did not ask for it to be waived. It’s awesome, obviously, but I’m just curious if this is common…

@lcj1994 STEPS TO VIEW FAFSA AWARD AMOUNTS

log in to status check/decision page> click next steps(on left) >admitted student checklist>activate ucla log in ID and password> DO PREVIOUS STEP > then go to back to check list page> click number 2 which is view fafsa reward> then go to view award/scholarship letter

The amount “total” includes loans usually of $8,000 so make sure you are all aware of that. Grants and scholarships as well as health grants are free money.

and lcj I pm you if you need additional help you could call me and I can explain.

I’d love to trade my $0.00 aid for your $15K

rejected as a 3.8 mathematics of computation major! not surprised though, was missing 4 prereqs. i just applied for the heck of it

Yeah, I see where our finaid, grant and loan offers are, but I can’t find where we actually accept those offers. Anyone know where that is? I need to accept one of the loans but there’s no actual option to do so anywhere that I can find…

not me @waitinggame31

congrats to everyone

Hey guys. I’m new to the whole financial aid world since my parents paid for my time at a community college out of pocket. I wanted to know how do I go about taking out loans? My estimated cost of attendance is around $54000 but I’m getting $11,598 in a grant. But then I’m also gonna live in an apartment in the Valley area so do I even factor in the amount they have for housing and meals?

@waitinggame31 i have not received any decisions yet. What about you?

haha i guess we’re all in this together @stephchrista @waitinggame31

OOS resident here. I got practically no aid just loans even though my family makes next to nothing :frowning:

I’m still shocked that I got in. I didn’t think my GPA was good enough. What exactly does Bruin Day entail? Is it just like a big tour?

@fullload you need to wait until you accept the offer I believe then you can accept the aid. If you have already SIRd then I would give them a call. It is the provisional award that you are looking at so the final award may differ and may not be ready just yet.

I am looking to you guys for some advice, considering I have been lurking your comments for some time now!

Should I appeal my application decision?

@anikom15
It’s basically a collection of events aimed at informing prospective students about the opportunities that UCLA has to offer academically, socially, and occupationally. Further, there are all kinds of tours scheduled on that day that you can go to(I strongly recommend the housing tour. It’ll show you what life is like in dorms and you’ll learn about on-campus dining). There’s also general campus tours and tours of certain other areas on campus.

There’ll also be workshops of various kinds on that day. All of you guys who plan on going to Bruin Day should attend a few of them; you’ll learn more about them if and when you decide to go, no RSVP necessary, of course. Financial aid workshops, workshops about tutoring, work-study, and so on.

Bruin Day is also a great opportunity for free food, so enjoy that too lol

If you can make it to UCLA on Bruin Day, I strongly recommend that you do so. Bruin Day was very much worth it for me. If you choose to bring family(Which I strongly recommend, because they have events for families of admitted students and workshops/info for them too), you’ll make them very happy when you’re with them walking around campus; it’ll make it really sink in that you got into a really good school and they’ll be even more proud of you.

@anikom15 I too would like to hear about Bruin day and what it’s all about
