Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@withtwowingss don’t fail.

Is it your first transferable math class? is it part o fa major pre req?

@LuckyName I would say speak to the UCLA transportation office but they are not very helpful. If you have to bring your car then you will need to buy a permit from another student. Technically you are not suppose to do that but students do sell them, just have to look on CraigsList. However, most students will try to make money off them, and sell them for for close to 400 dollars just for the quarter.

I also have a question about a math class. I’m a psych major and on assist.org, for UCLA, it states that I can fulfill the math requirement by either taking stats or calculus. I’ve taken stats already and I had planned to take calculus to fulfill other UC math requirements. However, precalculus is a prereq for calculus. I took precalculus last year and unfortunately had to withdraw from the course. I am now taking precalculus again this semester and currently have a C. I’m hoping to raise my grade up to a B, but if I can’t I’m thinking to withdraw from the course to maintain a high gpa (I plan to go to pa school or medical school). Since I’ve been accepted to UCLA I no longer need precalculus. So my question is: Can UCLA decline my admission offer if I receive a C in precalc, or if I withdraw from it(and have a total of two w’s both in precalc)?

This may have already been asked, but is there a transfer group/page on facebook?

@LuckyName, obviously i don’t want to fail haha. you all know, the newly admitted nerves are just starting to make me prepare for any situation.
@luckie1367 yes, it is my first transferable math class. so it would not only lower my gpa but screw up my igetc certification. which is why I’m super concerned. it is not a major pre-req thankfully :slight_smile:

at this point i am just curious if other people are in similar situations or have heard/know anything about something similar to my “possible” dilemma.

@withtwowingss you cannot drop it, and you cannot fail it. Go see your prof, tutors, anyone who can help you get at least a C. If you drop it or fail, you will 100% lose you spot at UCLA.

Lol are you guys saying there’s a blackmarket for parking? What if people are applying for parking passes just to sell them at a marked up rate later in the year? Sounds like a Seinfeld episode.

do you guys think it is reasonable to commute from around USC area?

@anikom15 haha, Maybe George, but more likely Kramer and Newman. That really WOULD have been a good episode.

@myneighbortotoro no

@myneighbortotoro
USC area isn’t too far to commute to. It’s not down the street, but it’s definitely commutable. I did an internship with a girl who lived on campus at USC, and the internship was near UCLA. Like any commuter she contended with traffic during peak times, but it’s completely doable.

I want the physical acceptance letter!

@2016Candles Thanks so much for your input!
What do you think the best way to commute is(in terms of what kind of transportation)?

@myneighbortotoro If you’re looking at public transportation, you can take the Expo line Metro train to Culver City, then take a Santa monica bus to campus. It would take about an hour. By taking the train, you avoid traffic.

By car it’s probably about 25-30 minutes. It’s somewhere around 10-12 miles. This with minimal traffic. With traffic it could still be an hour.

I ride the Big Blue Bus (BBB) on an almost daily basis, and its a fairly good way to get around.

Do you guys think that UCLA would be willing to grant a parking permit exception for medical reasons? I have a (non-physical) disability and I have to see doctors on a regular basis. I don’t want to have to spend 2 hours on a bus to get to my doctor when the facility is only 8 miles away. I’ve been looking on their website and don’t see any alternatives.

I believe they do not grant medical exceptions. I could be wrong, but I don’t Believe that they do. I would suggest giving a call to the transportation office and asking the question. Just a heads up-they’re not very helpful group.

@apocalypso an alternative - lots of students use Uber and Lyft to get around.

Has anybody sent their first set of transcripts in? Would they process mine if I sent them in before I submitted my SIR?

@LuckyName , I’m curious as well. Does anyone know the processing time for transcripts? If I send it in in Mid may, will it be marked by June 1?
