I’m glad you’re around to like my posts, @luckie1367! :x
Always lindy!
Did anyone missing a prerequisite get in?
I just committed!!!
@StaticRoar I got in without the language prereqs (for English) but when I called them about it, they said the language prereqs don’t really factor into your admission decision.
I was a bit bummed when I heard back from UCLA but now that I’ve heard back from Berkeley I thought I would post my stats.
Rejected from UCLA. Accepted to Berkeley and UCSD.
Major: Gender Studies
GPA: 3.927
Pre-reqs: None articulated w/ my CC
IGETC: Complete by the end of this semester
TAP: No
Accepted: UCB, UCSD
Rejected: UCLA
@tjcali89 Wow, 3.92 rejected from UCLA in gender studies. Is the avg GPA really that high? I wouldn’t think so. Its so arbitrary. Congrats on Berkeley
That’s crazy tjcali, I’m pretty positive the avg. gpa for gender studies is about the lowest possible at UCLA. You must have had other variables they didn’t like. It certainly wasn’t your GPA.
How long it usually takes to graduate for average transfer students?
I have 70 units, and planning to take 2 classes this summer (One class for each session) *@UCLA
I also got rejected from UCLA ):
Major: Biology
GPA: 3.93
Prerequisites: I completed the prereqs for UCSD, and found that UCLA asks for a different calculus sequence! Also missing a psychological research class that UCLA required but UCSD didn’t. However, I did complete, or am in progress of completing, all the recommended courses, such as organic chemistry I and II and physics I and II. Was hoping that would help but I guess not. ):
IGETC: complete
TAP: no
Accepted: SDSU, UCSD, UCI
Rejected: UCLA
Congrats to all accepted to UCLA! A great accomplishment!!
@CaptainCal
You can exceed the unit cap limit if you submit a petition explaining your reasons. They seem good enough, given your ambitions, and petitions aren’t that hard to get approved here, from what I’ve found.
I would go ahead and confirm this with a counselor, but here’s a helpful resource: http://www.ugeducation.ucla.edu/counseling/max-units.html.
216 quarter units is the max allowed. Anything more than that requires a petition. As said before, I’m optimistic about your chances of getting the petition removed, based on what I’ve learned from personal experience with petitions and with other people who went through variations of this process of obtaining university permission to do certain things.
@wlasm15 I’m planning to knock it out in one year. I need 75 quarter units. Doing 20 this summer (10 in each of the two sessions), then 15 units a quarter through next Summer. Hard, but doable.
@cayton when you say they will allow a petition to exceed unit max do you know how far they will go? Like a year?
@fullload Wow a year? I heard that even a 4 or 5 unit class during summer session is hard. Good luck!
Alright guys, so I am sorry in advance if this question has already been asked. I am looking to live in the university apartments and I am confused on the difference between 2 Bd + loft/ 5 person - double and 2 Bd + loft/ 5 person- single means. What is the difference between single and double?
@fullload not trying to bring you down but you’re really setting yourself up for failure. the summer courses are extremely intense. not to mention, it’s going to be your first. “hard” is an understatement for what you’re setting yourself up for.
I appreciate the concern.
The thing is, I’m older and have been working in the field of my major for several years. I’ve even taught a course in one of the classes I’ll be taking. I’ve had some success in this field already and have the time to focus. I’m not worried. But again, thanks!
There is an old saying, don’t try to bite off more than you can chew. Meaning, if you are not use to the quarterly system, don’t try to take a ton of classes. A couple students who I met at orientation told me they were planning on taking 5 courses in the Fall, I had classes with them, and basically said they took it down to 3 for Winter and Spring because they didn’t get the grades they wanted because of the workload in the Fall. So, pace yourself. Remember, 3 classes is considered full-time. Remember it is a marathon not a race.
2-3 classes per quarter is not going to be a problem for me.
Go for it @fullload. !!! I get where you’re coming from…
