Appreciate the support Lindy. I’m just coming from a different place and background than most younger transfers, it’s not an arrogance thing. I just know at my age and experience what I can, and can not handle.
Does anyone know how sports-y UCLA is? I know they have a LOT of teams (100+), but I am very much the stereotypical English major completely disinterested in sports. I’m still planning on going to UCLA, but want to know how pervasive the sports culture is.
@fullload Good luck. hope you’re still posting in Fall.
Didn’t @2016Candles graduate in a year? Hopefully she can tell us how hard it was and how much effort it took. Also curious as to what grades she got.
@History2Law 2016Candles transferred into UCLA with 125 units due to completed upper division work. So only 55 units were needed (not 75) and has stated that it was extremely difficult.
I don’t know. If @fullload wants to try it out, then power to him!
I’ve matured enough and I’m not the typical “20-21” year old transfer student. I also don’t have to work at all because I’m lucky to have everything covered by my loved ones. But I would still not take a load like that. Even if all my time goes to studying. I’m doing 12 unit quarters a (two of those are 15-16 quarter units) and that’s it. Also not doing summer school because I want a break this summer and want a good internship next summer.
@lindyk8
Not sure, but if you have good reasons, I suppose the limit is endless.
Does anybody know how the housing application work? Am I guaranteed to choose the kind of housing I want or they will put me on some random spots based on the space-availability ?
@History2Law
Yes I’m graduating after 1 year. I’ve taken 4 classes each quarter. It’s not easy but very doable. I try to make 1 class be easier than the rest, so I don’t have to put toooo much effort. My first quarter I finished with a 3.75. I dropped a bit in winter because I had 1 course I really struggled with. I was just under 3.5 for winter. I expect this quarter to be 3.5+.
Right now my challenge is 4 classes, hard core job searching, and working on my state of purpuse essays for grad school apps. Plus Senioritus is real!
It’s not so much that the classes are hard, it’s just that doing everything in a compressed manner is difficult. I barely started UCLA, and then I already have to think about prepping for graduation. It’s just a lot of things to juggle and making sure you don’t drop the ball.
Could ucla run out of spaces? I want to SIR after bruin day but only if im guaranteed a spot lol
@2016Candles what do you think about getting 75 units done in just one year? 20 of those being done this summer.
@History2Law they won’t admit you and then say they don’t have a spot, lol. You’re guaranteed a spot and that’s why they’ve accepted you.
@LuckyName
Totally doable if you’re willing to put in the work. I’m taking 18 units/ quarter. If you take 2-3 classes in your first and last summer, then you can.
Let me say - if I were in my early/ mid 20s I would not rush this experience. I would stretch out my 2 years and enjoy every minute. But I’m not. So I needed to get back to my “real life” asap.
Apocalypso, I’m an English nerd too, but also a massive sports fan. Been watching UCLA sports for over 20 years and to be honest, it’s one of the main reasons I wanted UCLA, because I wanted to be closer to the teams I love. Yes, it’s not just a sports school, it’s the biggest and best sports school in the country, IMHO. They have the most NCAA championships in the history of college sports for a reason.
Lol. Ahh the enthusiasm of the transfers…Wet behind the ears.But I applaud your courage.
@History2Law
You’re a guaranteed a spot if you submit the housing application on time and pay the fee.
@hbui7626
The housing is assigned by a lottery. You’re guaranteed a spot on campus if you submit the application on time, but where you’ll live will be random, somewhat.
A lot of transfers go to Rieber Terrace, Vista, and Sproul Cove, it seems.
@Apocalypto Ok good I just wanted to make sure because my uncle keeps telling my mom that I need to hurry up. He goes to UCI and he said that over 50% of transfers don’t get on campus housing because the deadline date is very early. I know hes not correct but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
@Cayton So I want to live on campus but I do not want to live in a triple. I know that a lot of people get triples but honestly i’d rather live in an apartment with more privacy. Lets say I get a triple and I can’t change out of it. What are my options? Can I tell them no and find my own place or am I screwed with a contract?
I would assume you’re stuck since you signed a contract? @History2Law I know it’s not UCLA, but I asked that same question at UCSB the other day and the tour guide said “you’re stuck but you can request to change roommates”
@Clayton wow it’s kinda sad to hear that. I REALLY REALLY want to live in apartments & would hate myself if I had to live in Dorm. Any suggestions ?
@History2Law, sorry, thought you meant admissions! Just submit your housing app on time. It takes around an hour to do.
@fullload I wish I were more into sports! It isn’t enough to make me reconsider, but I do like Berkeley’s quieter atmosphere. But then UCLA is UCLA.
