Don’t they have some kind of roommate mixer in October where people can switch roommates? They mentioned something like that in the Facebook group.
@Apocalypto I was talking about admissions and then I changed the topic. My bad. Theres a lot going on in my mind. Big changes for me…
@History2Law no problem! We’re all there with you, lol.
@Tik1127 Just because somebody is “wet behind the ears”, does not mean that they are not prepared for something. The most capable are used to being underestimated by the rest.
@apocalypso Don’t sweat the sports stuff. I’ve been on the UCLA campus for a wide variety of reasons, hundreds of times over the last 10 years. It’s easy to miss the sports hype if you’re not looking for it. I mean, it’s not the jock filled atmosphere you might be imagining. You have to actively look for games and that atmosphere. But that’s not your thing and you’ll have no problem finding the more scholastic atmosphere you’re after.
In fact, what I enjoy is I can hunt down any game at anytime and get into it, but can then head to another side of the campus to quietly read a book or just get in my old man time.
How may units do people normally complete per quarter I’m coming from a semester system so I’m kind of confused about all of this. Also is there any way to meet with a counselor before orientation? is it possible to schedule something at bruin day?
If I attend the orientation in late August, can I still get the courses I want?
@lbwaterpoloman , my comment was made in jest. I wish everybody the best and hope they accomplish what they set to do so.
@DoubleEguy, indeed you will(at least I did), I attended my orientation late August and I got every class I wanted.
Held off on posting stats until after all UC decisions had been made:
Accepted ~ Fall
Major: Sociology
GPA: 3.80
Pre-reqs: 2/3, received one A and one B.
IGETC: IP, done this spring
ECs: Youth ministry, football and basketball assistant coaching, and some very minor volunteering.
PS: I’d rate 8-8.5/10
Applied: UCSB/SD/LA, Irvine, and Berkeley.
Accepted: ALL
Leaning towards Berkeley though it would be in Spring, but I still plan on attending Bruin day. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
Are you guys signing up for orientation already? I might SIR now if it means getting an earlier orientation date.
Hey UCLA wait-listers a spot just opened up in Poli Sci, I’m choosing Berkeley.
You are a real asset to these boards Lindyk8, always good information shared. Thank you.
Wow, thx @MaMoi77. And I see you opened up a spot for a waitlisted UCLAer. GO BEARS!
@History2Law No. Orientation registration doesn’t begin until 3:00pm on June 4th.
@hbui7626
You don’t have to submit the housing application. If you want to live off-campus, you’ll have to find some roommates.
But the on-campus apartment suites are an option. They’re basically on-campus apartments without kitchens. Put that as your top preference and you may get apartments. It’s all based on luck and availability.
Does anyone know how rooms are assigned? I’ve already submitted my housing app and I’m hoping that means I’ll have a better chance at getting my room/theme choice.
@apocalypso nope. you’ll have the same chance. it’s a lottery that begins after everybody submits. it’s not first come, first served.
I just wanted to give hope to waitlisted UCLA people. I got admitted to both UCLA and UC Berkeley and I will definitely be going to Berkeley. Have hope! Congrats to everyone!
I don’t understand how the departmental scholar program works at all. Are you enrolled indefinitely until you get your masters? And you spend this whole time as an undergraduate?
Thanks @fullload and @lindyk8 ! I appreciate your comments! I was in a bit of shock when I got the rejection letter, but everything happens for a reason I suppose! After the UCLA rejection, I was sure I wouldn’t get into Berkeley. But, I am very happy to be accepted to Berkeley and I’m sure Berkeley is a better fit for me than UCLA. I suppose not getting into UCLA just made deciding a little easier.
