Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

What is TSP?

@luckie1367 Session C wouldn’t be an option. It’s from August 3 - September 11. I move out of my current apartment on August 19th. The last thing I want to do is move while in school, especially considering I own so many damn things! I moved a week before school started this past year and I didn’t finish unpacking until three months later from how busy I was and how many things I owned. Lol

@LuckyName that is a good idea

@luckie1367 it’s the Transfer Summer Program. The application hasn’t gone up yet. You move in on July 27th and take 3 classes there with some other transfers before the fall quarter starts. It looks good! But I’m unsure if registering for summer financial aid would mess with my financial aid for TSP if I got in.

Edit: UCLA has a 3- or 4-day camp-type trip for transfers, too, but I’m not sure how to apply for it.

@apocalypso can you link the page? I’m on mobile and I cant find it.

@luckie1367 yeah, here it is:

http://aapucla.com/programs/new-students/freshman-and-transfer-summer-programs/

Thank you!

@apocalypso isn’t the deadline to apply for financial aid April 30th? so you don’t have much time to decide?

@apocalypso I just went through that website. It sounds great. It sucks that the courses offered are not what I would like to take. So oh well.

Oh my god that program sounds amazing. What is the “honors collegium 101” course?

EDIT: It appears to be independent research! Hell yeah!

@luckie1367 no problem!

@LuckyName, yeah, that’s the problem. I think I’ll call on Monday to see if anything would go dangerously wrong if I signed up for classes and then decided not to go in favor of TSP.

@UniversalSnip right?? It looks great.

Does anyone know if its possible to defer enrollment for new financial reasons? or will they just suggest I take out a huge loan… :frowning:

@merpcollegelife what is your PAL like?

@nappysama wow, i really am proud of you! From that low to a really high GPA, YOU motivate me and I’m so happy that you can attend your dream school :smiley: Now just one more year for me when I get my acceptance/rejection letters

Small differences in rankings don’t matter a lot when it comes to finding a job, right? I SIR’d to UCLA last week, and then I got into Berkeley, which has the #1 English program in the country. I really love UCLA, though, for a number of reasons both practical and academic. UCLA is around #8 in the country for English. That isn’t a major difference, so this is probably minor, right? I would assume that graduating from UCLA has a lot of prestige on its own, and not much less than graduating from Berkeley (in my field).

EDIT: For clarification, I’m not planning on going into law or academia. Right now, my plan is to go into library science.

Hey everyone, I’ve been following this thread for a while though I’ve barely posted on it other than my decision. I was just wondering how people are going about finding roommates? I already did the random roommate thing during my freshman year and don’t feel like risking it again hahah

@ellieh14 there’s a Facebook group for transfers (called “UCLA Transfers”) and on there, someone posted that there’s a group called something like “UCLA Class of [your year here] Roommate Mixer.” Other than that, I don’t know. You could try the housing group, but that seems like mostly people looking for apartments.

Could someone please explain to me the “honors program” at UCLA who’s dealing is June 1st? What exactly is it and does it entail the website doesn’t really make sense to me, is it worth it?

Also how are we supposed to send our proof of immunizations?

@lcj1994

College Honors students are nurtured with services and benefits designed to support them, including:

[QUOTE=""]
Academic counseling and services Extended borrowing privileges at the UCLA Libraries Special events and functions Eligibility for honors scholarships and awards Eligibilty for summer research funding Letter of Verification services Special Transcript Notations Recognition at graduation and “College Honors” notation on diploma

Check out their FAQ. You need a 3.75 GPA to qualify, 3.5 for continuing quarters. Complete their honors plan and you will get honors recognition on your diploma. The deadline to submit your application is June 1st. I submitted mine earlier this week through myUCLA and it says I will receive my decision after July 1st.

also with immunizations, you have to print out the form and take it to your doctor. Your doctor will fill it out. You then log online and submit an electronic version of it AND also mail them the official forms signed by the doctor. This is NOT required unless you are younger than 18 (in which case, you need the Hep B immunization) but it is recommended.
