@ccctransferuc is it a required course?
@Cayton any free stuff too on bruinday? haha
gotta love some ucla swag
Does anyone know how likely it is that I’ll get any financial aid at all for summer sessions if I filed after the priority deadline?
@apocalypso did you enroll in 12 units?
Edit: oh wait. You said after the deadline.
@LuckyName yeah, after the deadline. I’ve already submitted it but I don’t want to register for classes until I know if I’ll be getting aid.
By the way, my transcript was just received. For anyone else waiting, I mailed it on April 25th and it just said “pending” on myUCLA this morning (May 6th).
@apocalypso
I THINK if you apply after the deadline, you can still be eligible for loans, but I think you won’t be able to get any grants or scholarships. I’m not saying it’s a hard and fast rule, but I think you would only get free money, if there’s any money left in the pot after everyone who applied on time gets theirs.
Hey @Cayton ,
Coming from semesters all my life, is the adjustment to the quarter system horrible? Or does it eventually feel normal once you get used to it? It does seem cool that you’re essentially taking double the amount of different courses (different instructors, materials, books), unless I’m mistaken and each class is like part 1, part 2.
I was calculating this out a while back. You really aren’t taking that many more classes. Say you take 4 each semester - that’s 8 a year. If you make it 5, it’s 10.
You take 3 each qtr, that’s 9, although you may take a few 4 per qtr.
I know my math.
@Mac2000 yes, we’re all gonna fail lol.
@LuckyName thats the spirit b-(
Hey apocalypso, I was under the impression I had to regester for the summer courses before applying for aid. Was I wrong about that? Hmm, also wondering when they’re going to finally let us know, it’s killing me.
@81Mamba
You get some free pins to put on your shirt saying you SIR’d to UCLA or something like that(They look pretty nice) and a free bag with UCLA’s logo or something. Not the best swag, but UCLA swag nonetheless.
@Mac2000
It’s a bit of an adjustment, but not too bad. You kind of just enter a state of being after a while where you’re always studying sometime during the week, at least 1 or 2 days or so, but preferably 3 or 4 days. You definitely don’t have to do that on the semester system.
Oh, and there’s not much of a break between midterms and finals. I mean, there is, but it flies by so quickly. Overall, though, I’ve come to enjoy the quarter system. I think most people at UCLA do, even if we complain about it a lot, lol
Just remember to hit the ground running this fall and not study like you’re in semester system mode.
And yeah, it’s great that we get to take more classes during the year!
@cayton very cool. Thank you!
@luckie1367 It’s a major pre req for my alternative major. My counselor said that most people take it at UCLA and that it isn’t necessary to finish it prior to transferring. BUT I’m just worried that it would put me at a disadvantage.
@luckie1367 This is exactly from UCLA:
All majors: To be considered for any Mathematics
major, you must complete at least four semesters/five
quarters of calculus through multivariable and either
linear algebra or differential equations by the spring
prior to transfer. Additional recommended coursework
prior to transfer: All mathematics majors should complete
the calculus series (encompassing single variable,
multivariable, linear algebra and differential equations)
and one introductory course in C++.
It says “recommended” so I don’t know if I should take that with a grain of salt.
So where do we check the status of our transcripts on myucla? does it pop up in top right under notices? I ordered mine through my CC’s online portal, with the IGETC certification included (This was April 25th). Nothing has arrived there it seems…

@fullload
You don’t have to register for summer classes prior to applying for summer FA. You just had to indicate the # of units you plan to take.
@ccctransferuc you should be fine then
Brief Question regarding AAP:
How competitive is it to get into the summer program?
Are the F/TSP financial aid application and the Summer Financial Aid application the same form? And in regards to that, I submitted my Summer aid application after may 1st :(, so I’m hopeful that they aren’t.
