Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

@lakeshow310 I heard that it is best to know what classes you want to take before you go to orientation. Luckily we have people who are willing to help us :slight_smile:

@lakeeshow310 Nobody is “panicking.” Schedule was released today and people are browsing. It’s also not so difficult to find out what classes you need for your major. I already planned out my next two years just by looking at the major requirements on the psychology department website.

I’ve actually even looked at the sociology requirements because I wanted to know how difficult it would be to double major. HONESTLY, it’s a bit intimidating but you DO NOT need somebody to hold your hand while you figure out what you need to do. Everything is really straightforward in my opinion.

It took me a couple of hours to figure it all out but I have my plan set.

@Cayton or anyone else, do you know if the housing admissions office takes the housing essay for transfers very seriously? I kinda wrote a really quick and mediocre response, and I’m hoping they don’t deny me housing in Gardenia over that.

So I submitted my intent to roll, but when I tried to submit the $100 deposit fee it says not required. Did this happen to anyone else?

Hmmm, that sounds odd. Did you file a fee waiver? Could that be it?

@Ellie64 Extremely low income individuals don’t have to pay the deposit. Do you have a 0 EFC or close to it?

I’m not sure, I didn’t apply for fafsa :-?? But thanks guys for the response! I just want to make sure I’m secure!!

@Ellie64 in my process of submitting the sir, I was not asked to pay a $100 deposit. It’s waived for certain people and as long as your MyUCLA page reflects that you’ve completed your SIR, you should be fine!

^ And my efc is not close to 0 but it was still waived

@Lemanie That’s so weird. I once read on the Facebook transfer page that it is waived for very low-income individuals.

@ellie64, you better contact admissions tomorrow because if you did not file FAFSA, it may be a glitch, although you can pay later (not sure how much later). Do you have an emailed receipt that you SIR’d? Also check your portal because it will probably end up as owing.

Did you receive a fee waiver on the original application? I’ve heard that its based on what you put there.

@LuckyName @luckie1367

I had to pay for all my UC applications. My household income is ~$60k so I wouldnt consider that very low income.

@Lemanie… I’m not sure. Did you get a confirmation/does it show as complete on MyUCLA?

So I’m trying to make a rough outline of what my schedule will be next semester and one class has a discussion at the same time as lecture. That makes no sense to me and I’m just confused, esp. because there are other discussion sections at other times.

@anikom15
That shouldn’t be the case. What’s the class - if you don’t mind sharing. I’ll take a look.

@2016Candles Do all classes have discussions? Because when I was going through the psychology courses yesterday, I couldn’t find any class with a discussion. I’m either overlooking something or there’s an issue with the schedule. :-?

@LuckyName
No, not all classes do. It is usually very large lectures that tend to have discussions, but not all. In my major, Sociology, most classes do, which can be a drag. I don’t know the trend for Psych, but if there is no discussion listed, then there probably is not a discussion. I was just skimming the Psych Schedule of classes and it seems about half of the courses have a discussion.

Look at Psych 135 (for example). The very first class listed is the lecture. MW 12:30 - 1:45. Every listing below that, are discussion sections. When you get ready to register, you will actually register under the discussion, not the lecture.

Does that make sense, or am I just making things muddier?

I don’t remember. I think it was EE M16 or EE 2. There are a few TBDs listed so maybe things aren’t finalized.

What do discussions entail exactly, anyway?
