Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

A hold wont let you look at your grades or unofficial transcript. I know because I had a hold over 25 cents…

25 cents? @History2Law :-&

@Outerhaven I’ll be on the look out B-)

@UCLA17 per @2016Candles, we can only register in 3 classes tomorrow

@starcabar above advice is all good.

I’ll have my Zelda/Triforce laptop bag if anybody wants to randomly say hi, haha :stuck_out_tongue:

apparently for comm studies even if we got in we have to reapply because were not technically in the major. We have to do a creative project, answer 3 essay prompts and maintain a certain gpa until spring quarter then apply… I have NEVER HEARD of this until today at precession and I’m so confused. Also they are basically forcing us to take comm 10 even though so many people have warned us not to… have you guys heard of comm transfers having to apply into the department i thought that was only for students here since freshman year who obviously cant declare comm until they get their application approved.

For people who have gone to the pre-session, was food included, or do you have venture out to Westwood for some foraging?

They only provided dinner at 6

Also, for future pre-session students. It’s an overnight event and you will be able to store your items at the front desk of the dorm lobby. I wish they would have informed us about it.

@lcj1994, I cannot say with absolute certainty but my daughter got in last year before they implemented that rule. Long story short, she didn’t attend so reapplied this year when that new rule was in place. I’m the one who actually called the dept last sept about it and was told by the comm dept it was only for freshmen and not transfers. Also my daughter was accepted again this year (she’s SIR’d elsewhere), but it said Communications. It didn’t say pre-comm. I can’t 100% vouch for this but I don’t think you have to do anything.

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN1 I told you it was FOUR DAYS ago. You chose to ignore me and act like I was wrong. YOUR fault.

[-O<

@lcj1994 What?! This is news to me and it makes me very worried :open_mouth:

Just saw @lindyk8’s response though and I think you make a valid point. I mean, if they put communication in our acceptance letter … why didn’t they put pre-communication if there is a chance it won’t actually be our major in the end?

I hope everyone has fun at orientation today! Please share the details

Technically the contract has to go both ways. If it says you were admitted as Comm. then I believe that would be binding.

@LuckyName yeah but do you work for the department? You are just some random guy on the Internet.
The NSAs are even annoyed about it not being explained by the department. Also, no information was given in terms of emails, or what to bring and where our items would be stored while at orientation. My NSA said only like 9 out of 50 stayed overnight.

@FUTUREUCLABRUIN I told you it was confirmed by somebody from the department. So you should have listened to this “random guy on the Internet.” So don’t try to downplay me when we both know I have been more knowledgable than you.

Hey @FUTUREUCLABRUIN1, did you do the overnight? If so, just wondering – last year my daughter did it and there was an icbreaker sort of thing, then they got a tour of Westwood, and dinner at some pizza joint. Was yours like that?

@anikom15 @Manda001 @lcj1994 the only thing I will say is my daughter got admitted to media studies at Berkeley, but cannot declare until she takes Media Studies 10 with a B- or better. And she must take it first term. It did not say pre-Media Studies in her acceptance. Maybe UCLA is changing policy and you now have to take Comm Studies 10 first term to declare. (??)

@lindyk8 Yes, true too. On the other hand, I was accepted to media studies at Berkeley too but it never actually said that I was accepted to media studies, just their college of letter and science (compared to UCLA which said 'admitted to college of letter and science with communication studies as our academic major). Anyway, it doesn’t really matter because in the end I guess UCLA have the power to do whatever they feel like lol. But I will be very upset if this is true, because I think those sorts of things should be more clear in the acceptance (as I think Berkeley has been very upfront with). Also, it makes me wonder, since I took the the comm studies 10 class at SMC, if I’m expected to complete it again? It just makes no sense to me :frowning: I think I’ll call and ask tomorrow hmm …

@Icj1994 if it help, psych also has 2 pre reqs that can only be completed at UCLA. We are considered pre-psych until we complete them

So far Orientation has been AMAZING. I just wish I had a third arm to carry all of my stuff!
