@manda001, my bad. You’re right. Berkeley admits to L&S. If your course articulates to Comm Studies 10 you won’t have to take it. Lucky you. It’s supposed to be a bear in order to weed out the undesirables.
I’ve had a decent time so far myself I didn’t expect ucla to be so big! I was so winded when we met up with the anthro advisor. He was great. I must come off as really anti-social though because I was sitting alone eating cherry cranberries lol. I tried to eavesdrop on this other group of transfers just to feel included
Anyone else near/in/around Covel? ;
So big? LOL. UCLA is the smallest out of all UC’s (not counting UCSF, of course).
@luckie1367 I’ve been near there for the past few hours, haha. Our advisor told us to go be free and do whatever, but I was worried I’d get lost
So does ucla save some extra seats in intro ling or psych classes for students who attend new student orientation? Also anyone here who has orientation on Friday and wants to meet up?
hey, guys. i wanted to apply in the fall, and I am hoping you guys can help me. I wanted to apply with an economics major, but i am hearing some troubling things about the major that are making me reconsider. I wanted to pursue law school after. can you please help me?
I AM SO UPSET AT THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT
THEY ROYALLY SCREWED ALL OF US
IF COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL ALLOWED US TO SWEAR THIS WOULD JUST BE 10K F BOMBS
Lol good luck to those in later sessions hopefully they get their sh*t together by then lol… crazy hectic and misinformed
@luckie1367 What happened? I’m
Assuming there was an issue with course registration, but what exactly happened?
@luckie1367 what happened? You seemed so happy earlier. And using all caps!
Wanted to pop in and say that my transcripts were marked as received this morning! Sent them in around 6/17. Just glad they didn’t get lost in transit, lol.
Why do I have the feeling that he’s going to come back and say the psychology department didn’t hold seats for incoming students?
it was hectic.
-the meetings were somewhat boring and stacked back to back to back
-you were hot and sweaty from walking approx 10 miles in 80 degrees weather
- you’re short on time and you get overwhelmed about what classes u can and can’t take. also, the classes are first come first serve in a sense. I know that for the major pre reqs they’ll just add more seats in the future but for the GE"s it’s just a first come first serve.
- it was a jungle in there and honestly you dont have much time to eat dinner
(also, i already knew what classes i wanted to take but there were challenges that occurred for my major with back to back finals and understanding what courses i was eligible for)
Pro
-you get to feel like a bruin
-you get a lot of goodies
-your NSA is SUPER informed and professional
-and you walk around as an actual student
Wow, sounds like a rough day for most people.
Okay, I’ve had some time (and some sleep) ((and some food)), so here is what happened.
Check in was a complete breeze, and the breakfast they had was really nice. I loved chatting with some of the other people there. Later, we met up with the new student advisor (NSA) who was AWESOME, and our little group got to know each other.
We walked over to the inverted fountain to be ‘bruinized’ (which at first I thought was cheesy, but wow it felt amazing). Then as trnsfrstdnt said, did a bunch of back to back meetings. I wasn’t to bothered by this though, since I had been expecting to do a ton of walking and have a really packed day. Plus, I thought all of the speakers were really, really good and informative.
Somewhere in the middle of those speeches was lunch. They give you $8 on your Bruin Card, but make sure you stay under it, otherwise you have to pay cash or put in on your own debit card. My food was just a couple of cents above $8, so I had to pay for the whole meal on my own (they couldn’t split $8 on the bruin card and $0.XX on my debit card). However, I checked this morning and I still have the $8 to use on my bruin card. The food was really good!
Around 2:30ish was our last meeting (for psych majors, it was meeting with department counselors. Actually it was more like a presentation with psychology counselors since there were to many for a one on one). They went over the specific requirements for our major, and told us that we could register in 2 major courses and 1 course from another department for a total of 3. We would not be allowed to enroll in 4 classes. Again, not a big deal, since I understand they are trying to save space for future sessions.
After that our group was supposed to begin meeting with our NSA for our one to one. Covel (where the meetings were) got kinda packed with everyone waiting around, and they ended up getting behind by about 30 min. My NSA was awesome, and explained everything really well. In my break I had studied and used the Class Planner to create schedules (and tons of alternatives) so our meeting was relatively short. This was a good thing, since I was starving and needed to eat.
Heads up to future orientees, Sproul Dining has lockers, so make sure you ask someone how to use them. At about 6:30 I left the dining hall to meet back up with my NSA to register at 7pm. Only 2 computers could be used a time (so we don’t all crash the server), and we drew lots to see who would go first, then second, etc.
This is when it starts to get bad. At my enrollment time, I could not enroll in a single psychology course that I had planned. NOT ONE. NOT EVEN MY MULTIPLE ALTERNATES. For whatever reason, classes in column B (psych majors know what that means, but its like the ‘non-science’ psych classes), were closed to all of us psych majors. NO ONE could get into them. And of course, the psych department had closed an hour earlier, and there was no way to call and let them know or have them fix it. This is where I have to give serious props to my NSA, who was calm and collected even though we were all panicking. Eventually, we realized that the classes we kept getting errors for were the column B classes, so the NSA had us enroll in 2 column A classes. Column A classes are the ‘science-psych’ tough classes that the counselors essentially told us we should not take 2 or more at a time.
The shitty part is that they emphasized that once we were done today, our study list (enrolled classes) would be set in stone until September 15, when it opens up again, with no guarantee we can get anything we originally wanted since everything might be full. So we’re all screwed until September 15, when MAYBE some easier classes will still have spots.
So now I’m enrolled in two column A courses and a random elective. At this point, I’m just happy to have A class, even if this schedule is going to kill me this Fall.
You don’t enroll in 100B? @luckie1367
I got in for session C over the summer @LuckyName
it makes no sense that they’re doing that when column A requires pre-reqs. what about the people that DON’T have psych 100A done by Fall? They can’t enroll in classes from column A. @luckie1367
They told us at the psych department meeting that they don’t enforce some of the pre reqs, or you can take them at the same time.
