No @bomerr depending on the class and the sequence, if the end result makes you disqualify for a class that is a pre-requisite you could be rejected.

Actually, to qualify this: math is a validation subject, as is Language, so you can skip a sequence if you pass a higher course (or test in to it) and the lower levels are validated. So you could take Calc 2 and not take Calc 1. Just those two subjects.

However, following on @luckie1367’a observation, you still lose credit if you take out of sequence. So, if someone took Calc 2 and then took Calc 1 they would not get credit for Calc 1 because they took it after 2. If they were counting on those units, they lost them and might get under the minimum unit count.

Validation does not apply to sequences outside of math and lang. So if you missed one of a required sequence in, say Physics, it could impact you as the entire sequence may be required.

And I do agree, @bomerr that someone with great ECs may have an edge up, for sure. It depends on the life story and is variable.

@lindyk8
@luckie1367

If someone takes calc 2 and then calc 1:
-The UCs will only give units for calc 2
-But the perquisite requirement of calc 1 will still be fulfilled

Agreed @bomerr

Well, I thought I would give you guys an update! I ended up overdosing on cocaine, and after that, things went really bad. I’m taking next quarter off.

Omg @CollegeDropout1, I hope you’re ok. Are you able to withdraw and then go back?

@lindyk8 Yes, I can go back as long as I only take one quarter off.

OK, take a deep breath. It can all work out. Maybe a break is what you need.

@CollegeDropout1

The important thing is that you’re OK. If you don’t mind my asking…did the demands of school get too difficult for you? Or maybe some personal problems drove you to do this?

@Cayton I didn’t have any personal problems, and I was doing fine academically. I was just being stupid. I guess my boring major didn’t make things better. I kinda used alcohol and drugs as a distraction.

@CollegeDropout1

OK, good. Enjoy the break and start fresh in spring.

Whoa, wasn’t expecting to hear that! Glad you are okay!

AHHHHH! UCLA moves on with an own goal!!!

Not sure if anyone else watched that soccer game, but WOW

Yeah, that was awesome. Feel bad for that kid though, but oh well. GO BRUINS!

I’m missing my calc classes. I need both 1 and 2 by spring which I was thinking was impossible to do. Spring sem doesn’t start until Feb 1. I’m going to study to see if I can place into Calc 2. wish me luck.

@chr1st1, Depending on your CCC they may accept UC extension online Calc 1. You should check.

Thanks that sounds like a good idea to look into. It looks pricey. I started watching the MIT open calculus class, I think I might be able to pass a placement if I can get through the entire course

i got accepted to csuf today but im going to see if i can pull this calc situation off and get into one of the ucs

Congrats @chr1st1

BTW, how is the MIT class in terms of understanding concepts? MIT is so brainiac-central, I’m wondering how well they teach to the “lesser” individual.

@lindyk8 ok so UCLA requires Calc 1 and Calc 2 to be completed by spring. do they allow you to place out of it through exams other than the AP test? I checked my placement test and actually I can enroll into Calc 2 for the spring. Do I still need to take calc 1 or did I place out of it?

I feel like it may be more difficult that it should be. The teacher is definitely a brainiac. However there are supplemental videos done by his TAs and those are more down to earth and helpful.
