Hey, @chr1st1 good news! I was doing some research on international students and found the following sentence regrading calculus and UC unit credit from a CCC: “…you will only get credit for one Calculus class if you took both Business Calculus and Calculus I." Thus, the UCs are connecting the courses in some manner.

That page states there is a test that allows you to test into Calc 2 (C185). I’m going to be the contrarian here: You feel you can handle the course, your dream campus is UCLA, and without Calc 2 you cannot apply to UCLA. I see nothing wrong with going for it, assuming you feel you have the support and resources to forge ahead.

I would, though, still verify with the UC about math validation of Calc 1 (although they seem to be connecting Bus Calc with Calc 1 in some lopsided way).

Lastly unless assist says Biz Calc is acceptable in place of Calc 1–which for Biz-Econ at UCLA it does not–then it’s no good. BTW I know Cal, UCLA, UCI, UCD, UCSB all don’t accept Biz Calc for their Econ majors.

Do all countries outside of the United States recognize and prefer UCLA or USC more?
UCLA does have much higher international rankings than USC, but I wonder why there are many more international students at USC than UCLA?
Is it because USC is easier to get accepted than UCLA for international students?
Just something I was curious about because I’m currently a USC student transferring to UCLA this fall if I get in.
UCLA is definitely known the world over, more so than USC. It’s probably easier to get in to USC, but I’m no expert on USC, so may be wrong. They also might offer better aid to international, if that is doable.
Hey guys, I have a quick question in regards to updating the UC application and any input will be helpful. I completed the AP Lit exam with a score of 4 which bypasses the first transferable course in the English sequence. I can only place AP scores in the score in the exam portion of the application, not the grade portion, and the following message comes up:
"Prior to transfer, you need to complete two transferable college courses in English composition (not including English as a second language courses). You reported just the one course listed below.
ENGL 205 - Critical Thinking and Intermediate Composition
What is the status of the second course?
-Already completed with a grade of C or better
-In progress
-Planned
-None planned/not completed"
And with that comes the option of entering the department, course #, and course title. As instructed, I have included the fact that I am using the AP test for this particular requirement in the additional comments section, but I am not sure what to put for this particular portion. Thanks!
Just put “already completed.” When a human evaluates your previous coursework they will see the AP test and apply it. I have them same situation, I have AP Lit and Comp, as well as ENGL 101/102 from and OOS CC on qtr system. The automated evaluation system gives me the same error as you and only shows ENGL 205 that I took in-state and is articulated. Non-articulated courses and AP exams will be awarded
Credit when a person evaluates your app. You’re ok.
Thanks for the response. I had the same problem at the end of the application where it told me I only completed 52 units because I have 13 or so units from AP classes.
@lindyk8 btw, an update on my Calculus freak out. I called UC and they said I’m good on my prereqs as long as I pass the Calc 2 class this spring. Also, I checked with my CCC counselor to make sure there wasn’t a mistake in my math placement. Counselor said there was no mistake made, so I’m good and won’t be kicked out of the class. I had the math professor email me some stuff and what do you know i remember a lot of my old math and I’ve been using the past few weeks to prep myself so I think I’m in good shape.
@chr1st1, so this is the situation where you placed into Calc 2 after business Calc and not having Calc 1? Wow! Good news. Great to know. Sooo, the upshot is, there is a way to test into Calc 2… (at least for you).
I’m glad you checked so nothing came up later to bite you in the butt.
So I will have IGETC completed at the end of the spring… I took two summer courses, got A’s. and got all A’s in my 17 units during the fall. I have a 4.0 but only 7 classes at my CCC completed. the rest of the units come from AP scores.
I am taking Calc 2. Managerial Accounting, English 1b and my last humanity for IGETC right now. I am 18 years old and work 55 hours a week 7 days/wk and talked a lot about that in my PS. I have a 4.0 but with so few ACTUAL college units, do you think I will be rejected from Biz Econ? pls respond :disappointedrelieved:
