Fall 2015 UCLA transfer students

I just hope they don’t discount me based on the fact that 7 AP scores basically fill a year’s worth of IGETC. It may seem like too much of a veil over my propensity to succeed.

HAhaha I wish. I am just an individual heavily deterred by the prospect of borrowing thousands of dollars in an uncertain marketplace for a degree that is becoming less valuable and more expensive. Receptionist by day, student by night, pizza man by weekends :sunglasses:

Can someone look at my chances?

Letters of rec: one USC alum(my teacher from high school) and my chemistry professor from college

…UCs don’t allow for letters of rec, how did you send them? @db1394

Pretty low chance, considering your GPA is lower than the admitted and because of the fact that you’re an OOS student at a current 4-year university.

I live in and am a los angeles native that went to elementary school through high school in los angeles @k4201505‌
@luckie1367 I didn’t mean to put that in there…

Looking through here will give you an idea of your chances:

https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14.htm

US schools outside of CA have about a 10% admit rate.

The Bio major has a 17% admit rate, with an average admit GPA of 3.72

You are still considered OOS because you are coming from an OOS university.

@luckie1367 the office of admissions consider me an in state student because my permanent address is in los angeles though? Thank you though!

For financial aid maybe, but not for admissions.

Unfortunately you attend a university out of state, therefore you are OOS.

UCs favor CC students, then UC/OOS, then students from foreign universities.

Edit: you can see on the chart at the bottom of https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14.htm

@db1394

@Bear87 if you want to apply, the UCLA Alumni Scholarship app is open!

https://alumni.ucla.edu/scholarships/apply/default.aspx

@luckie1367 thank you! I just got a start on it.

I’m not sure if you’ve applied to UCb @Bear87, but they have a version too, if you google it.

The date for Bruin Day is April 11! Does anyone else thing that decisions might come before that?!

http://www.bruinday.ucla.edu/

@luckie1367 I don’t think bruinday is the same day for freshmen and transfers right? That April 11th day seems to be for freshmen since transfer decisions won’t be out until April 17th (or later).

@81Mamba‌, That’s correct. April 11th is for freshmen and last year there was a Bruin transfer day in May. It’s possible they’ll release transfer decisions before April 11th, but it’s more likely they’ll follow the last few years’ pattern, 3rd week of April.

I’ll have to concur with @Happy2Help.

There’s always a bruin day for accepted freshman and a different bruin day for transfers, about a month apart.

Phew! I was in panic mode after a classmate said that!!

I’m starting to get panicky about admissions :-SS

@luckie1367‌ me to haha quite nervous and excited for admissions :stuck_out_tongue: Edited my TAU like 4 times just to make sure my wording in the comments section was right… Hopefully I sit back and just focus on not failing my current classes

@81Mamba‌ ha, i did the same thing!

What are my chances of getting in?
Transferring from a CCC as a junior.
First choice major: electrical engineering
Alternate major: mechanical engineering
Current GPA: 3.95
Course work completed: calc 1-3, linear algebra, and differential equations. the physics series, Two English classes, chem 1 and 2, speech, health, PE courses and a compsci class.
Will have a total of 74 units by the end of this spring.
EC: MESA and that’s about it. (I work part time to pay house bills and help out with the rent.) I feel as though I’ll be at a disadvantage for lacking EC’s.
Essays: Good.
I did poorly in high school so that’s why I’m at a community college. Gang violence has affected me throughout my high school years but I managed to turn my life around. That’s what I wrote about in my personal statement.

EE avg admited GPA is 3.89, which puts you in great shape for admissions!
